Recovery from D&C

I'm sad to say I've had a miscarriage. I thought I was 10 weeks and 5 days but had spotting yesterday and no heart beat was seen in a sono this morning. It looks like the baby stopped growing around 7 and 1/2 weeks.

I'm having a D&C tomorrow. I'm curious what the 48 to 72 hours after it will be like. Should I expect to be bleeding a lot?

Thanks. Chat Icon

After I had my D&C I was sore (nothing terrible) & bled for about 4 days. I then spotted for another 3 days...All things considered, the recovery from the procedure was by far the easiest part. It honestly wasn't bad for me at all. I hope that helps Chat Icon

I had a D&C at 11 weeks. Physically it wasn't sooo bad, but I didn't feel myself until 48 hours later. The uterus contracting back to it's original size really hurt. I bled for almost 3 weeks after, but many girls don't bleed as much.

My experience after the D&C was that I had just very light bleeding and spotting for 2 weeks...Not heavy bleeding at all. Sort of like the last day of AF.

Re: Recovery from D&C

I am so sorry for your loss. We all know what you are feeling but that doesn't make it any easier on you. This is just a heartbreaking time.

I had a D&C at 12 weeks and I had some light bleeding on the day of the D&C and the day after but then nothing. I was sore and spent most of the next 2 days in bed. Take the painpills.

About a week after the D&C I started brown spotting and did that for 7 days. My OB said that's very normal.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need anything.

Re: Recovery from D&C

I sent you a more detailed FM, but my D & C was fairly easy and I felt fine afterwards. A few cramps the next day. Im still bleeding but its more like spotting. Its been 8 days.

Re: Recovery from D&C

I've had 2 D & C's - one after a misacarriage.

The anticipation was a lot worse than the actual procedure. I woke up with very little bleeding and didn't bleed anything more than a light period for several days. Any cramping wasn't even as bad as a period. The procedure itself really was nothing - I was more emotional because of the miscarriage than anything.

I do have to say though stay off your feet and do what the doctor says. The second time I had a D & C I felt fine and pushed myself a little more than I should have. I ended up bleeding a lot more - not terrible but definitely more than the first D & C.

I've had 3 - each one was pretty much the same...a little cramping, no MAJOR bleeding, I needed a pad for 2 days or so and then moved to a liner ..

Your hormones may be a little crazy too...the beta level will start dropping after the D&C and will mess with you moods.
