are those bottom freezers any better than side by side? it seems like i'd just throw stuff in there in a big lump...or is there a way to organize things in there? can you post pics??

That's why we ordered a side by side. I figure it will be better for organizing.
My SIL hates her bottom freezer (she has 3 kids). She says she really can't fit much.

Re: can anyone recommend a great fridge??
We ordered this one.
It was the biggest side-by-side at 26.5 cubic feet.
eta: Now I'm not really sure. I know the one we DID order has the ice maker on the door in the freezer (instead of on the top shelf) so we'd have more freezer space.

Re: can anyone recommend a great fridge??
i have the amana with freezer on bottom from sears. i favor bottom freezers because: 1- cool air sinks, so this is the most efficient type of fridge. 2- my fridge will keep food good longer than expiration dates. my milk lasts days after expiration (it's mine, not my kids, i would not do this with my kids milk) EVERYTHING lasts longer in this fridge. Only thing i miss is an icemaker, but that would have been near impossible to run a hose to it and such. 3- you use the fridge more often, why are you bending down constantly to get stuff out?
bottom freezer, all the way!
