Gate at the top of the stairs
Can you please post a pic of your gate at the top of your stairs...also, if you have one that is "built in" to the wall, could you please tell me which company you got it from! Thanks!

Is it easy for you to open and close?

I think it's easy to use. We've had them up for about 3 years now between the 2 kids and no problems at all.
Sometimes my older relatives get confused by it, but they are all used to those old-school pressure gates that had the bar in the middle you lift up.

Re: Gate at the top of the stairs
I'm having a hard time finding one that works for us. We have a bannister/pole on either side (no wall to mount it to). Right now we have a pressure mounted one, but I don't like the bar on the floor. DH doesn't want to screw one into the wood bannister. i have to find a better solution.

I'd ordered these Gate Installation Kits from One Step Ahead. It's a piece of wood that you zip tie to the bannister and then mount the gate to that. But it's only like a half inch wide and the gate screws are longer than that.
I finally just drilled right into the pole and told DH that I'll fill the holes later but I was just too nervous not having it mounted properly.

Re: Gate at the top of the stairs
I have kidco gates (2 of them and about to get a 3rd). I really like them and they are very simple to use. They do need to screwed into something. On one it is screwed in the the wall. The other gate we bought something similar to what Cathy posted that you put around the banister. It is metal and sturdy considering the kids (yes even the little one, once and while) stand on it

We also have 2 kidcos that the previous owners left. I really like them and they are easy to use.

Re: Gate at the top of the stairs
We also have this one at the top and bottom of our stairs. DS climbs on it all the time and it is very study. At the top, we had to get the banister kit as well as there is no wall to attach it to (this picture is from before we had the gate installed)
We attached the gate on the left (when going up the stairs) and the receiving side on the other side.

Re: Gate at the top of the stairs
I have the Summer extra tall.
It's great - easy to put on, and I love it b/c you have to squeeze the release, AND lift the gate for it to open!
Kristina won't figure that one out for ages!!!!

Re: Gate at the top of the stairs
I remember hearing that, for safety reasons, gates at the top of stairs MUST be nailed in.
