Rough night...
There was no sleep in my household last night....
Ryan fell asleep @ 6:30 last night (he usually goes in around 7...by that time he had a bowl of cereal, and 30oz total for the day... So I thought great he should be nice and full....
He then got up @ 10:30...screaming for food, and downed another 6oz bottle.... he stayed up til midnight...in which him and I fell asleep on the couch til 3:30... I then put him in his crib and went into my bed... that only lasted about a half an hour...and up at 4 he was!
I gonna give him a little cereal in a little bit.... hopefully...with the 2 bowls today...+ his formula= we should have a better night..
How long did it take for your baby to start feeling fufilled from cereal....because so far Ryan has shown that its down nothing for him!

Re: Rough night...
Wow Marissa-sounds like he is going through a major growth spurt, with teething involved too it's never fun---hugs!! I honestly don't remember much about the cereal-gosh, feels like ages ago but Jenna was never the voracious eater (STILL isn't)

Re: Rough night...
He still doesn't sleep thru the night and it's been 5 weeks now. I really think it's a mix of growing, teething and a little gas.

Re: Rough night...
Each of the books I've read has said that solids of any kind do not help sleep. There are actually fewer calories per ounce in cereal than in formula/breastmilk. I don't think the cereal is the cause of his wakings (unless the food doesn't agree with him...)

Re: Rough night...
Im not saying cereal is the cause of his wakenings...HUNGER is the cause and I just cant figure out why....
Ryan was sleeping 10-12hrs straight through starting @ 3months old...but the past 10 days....he always hungry...
If you read my other post.... He is drinking close to 40oz of formula a day...hence why are starting cereal....(so he wont be drinking too much) Yesterday he had 32 oz, and cereal...and still starving...
I def. think teething plays a roll in the loss of sleep.... but I just cant figure out how to fufill him

Re: Rough night...
Does he take a pacifier as well? The only other possibility I can think of is that he is comfort sucking.
I hope this gets better for you soon!

Re: Rough night...
Sounds like a major growth spurt to me... they're typical around month 3 and 4. Unfortunately, Alex never came out of her growth spurt in terms of sleep. We're JUST starting to get back on track, and that's about 5 weeks later!

Re: Rough night...
Antonio never has (and probably never will) sleep through the night.
He has cereal in every bottle because he was so hungry and he wanted to eat every 2 hours. That was causing him to have too much formula witjout having time to digest it and it was giving him reflux. The cereal in bottle pushed him to 3 hours. Now he has a bowl of cereal in the morning and evening and he still gets up like clockwork to eat every three hour at night! However, he refuses to eat more than 4 ounces per bottle...he is a grazer! Sounds like Ryan eat a lot more. He could be trying to soothe his teeth. Try a little water then the pop in the pacifier if he takes it. that usually pushes him another hour during the night.
I have accepted the fact that eh will be in college and still want to eat at 3 o'clock.

Re: Rough night...
Yes he does take a binky.... but when I give it to him...he ***** like crazy...and when realizes its not food he screams...
This morning he had his cereal again...and has been making it 4 hrs.... (so far) but he was asleep... (I would be to if I stayed up all night...) So who knows...
Maybe tonight will be a little better w/ the 2 feedings...hopefully!

Re: Rough night...
Marissa if you are feeding him everything the doctor has asked and he is getting the right amount of ounces, talk to your dr. My brother was like this and his formula wasn't think enough and satisfying to him. The dr switched him to another formula that was thicker and for him it worked.
I know that we just got through this for my daughter. She used to sleep through the night and then all of the sudden around 7 months she stopped and started getting up every couple of hours. It did pass though.
I hope you can get some sleep tonight

Re: Rough night...
Sorry that you're having a rough time Marissa. What if you kept Ryan up a little later than 6? Then right before bed, give him a little more cereal and a bottle. Maybe it would satisfy his little growing tummy.

How about stripping him down for a bath if he starts falling asleep too early?
Also, silly question from a mom-to-be, but why is 40oz of formula too much? Is it too many calories?

Sometimes keeping a baby up past what he wants, is worse....
Im know 100% sure..but I think ...too many calories, too much iron, too much vitamins..???
(Im just guessing..but too much of anything is never good)
