Good vibes please for Ryan! * Update *
Ryan was born with something called a Hypospadia. Basically his peepee hole is slightly off.
We are meeting with Dr. Palmer tomorrow at 10:30am.
I have a sick feeling he is going to say surgery for my baby boy.
Would appreciate any and all good vibes/words of wisdom.
*** Update ****
So we went to the urologist this morning.
Although Ryan's case is not severe, it is still in need of surgery to repair. Dr. Palmer wants to wait until Ryan is 9 months old, so early March he will have surgery.
Basically the procedure, which will take about 2 hours, will straighten out his peepee (currently curves downward), circumsize him, and Dr. Palmer will rebuild his urethra. He will have a catheter tube in his peepee for two weeks after the surgery. Once removed and healed there is a 10% chance the surgery won't take and will be need to be redone.
Without correction, he will have problems potty training and will more than likely be unable to pee standing up for a pretty long time (until he is old enough to understand the hole is in the wrong place and he would sort of have to strattle the bowl). And would more than likely have pain during intercourse because his erection would not be straight.
With correction, he will pee normally, have no problems with intercourse and/or fertility.
Apparently 1 in 150 boys born have this. Dr. Palmer said the statistic used to be 1 in 385 but for a reason unknown at this time the chances have gone up. He said, "Think of it this way. There is not a single graduating class that doesn't have at least 1 student with Hypospadia regardless if it's been corrected or not".
So, given the facts we have obviously opted for the surgery. Although my heart hurts thinking about my baby going through such an ordeal. I am thankful we have great doctors who spotted this and have planned a course of action which I am confident in to resolve the situation.
Thanks for listening!

All I can say is that you will love Dr. Palmer. We saw him and Dr. Brock for my son (a different issue) and they were sooo nice!

Praying that he doesn't need surgery Jess!!!!
Hopefully you get some positive answers today and even if he does need surgery... sometimes it's harder on the parents than on the child. HOpefully it's something simple and easy to correct.

Re: Good vibes please for Ryan!
Both of my cousins had this. One required nothing, the other a minor surgery. He's in HS now and probably has no idea he ever had a problem or anything done since they corrected when he was so young.

Re: Good vibes please for Ryan! * Update *
My son did not have hypospadias, but he did have chordee (causing him to curve down)---he had surgery last month and is "normal" now----its tough anytime our DC have to have surgery, but you get thru it, its definitely harder on us then it is on them! I dreaded it, but now its behind us and he will never remember it. I am sorry you have to go thru this!
