Help me decide how to paint this (pics)

We've been in our house for over a year and we still haven't painted the MBR. It looks so BLAH! I hate the white walls!

I want to go with a neutral color because I like to change up my bedding too often. I was thinking of painting a tan/beige shade, but here is my dilemma. I have a second molding at the top of the wall. Right now the top portion is a slightly darker shade. Instead I was thinking of painting the bottom part of the wall a darker shade and then going a shade or two lighter on the top portion and keeping the moldings white. How does that sound? I'm open to other ideas if you have any. The other options I can think of are to paint it all the same color or to remove the lower molding, which I think would be a huge PITA. Or maybe paint the top section white? Or paint the top part a darker shade? I think that lighter on top would make the ceiling look higher, right? TIA!

I would paint the bottom darker then a shade or 2 lighter for that little section and then the lightest shade for the ceiling if you want to keep it monochromatic.
If you want to be a little bolder then I think you have a great opportunity to introduce a bold color in that little section and keep the bottom portion neutral and then the lightest shade of the bottom color for the ceiling.

i like the moulding there!

I think I'd do the walls a mocha color and the ceiling a creamy beige - with the space between the moulding and the ceiling something in between.

I'd do dark on the bottom, med in the space, light on the ceiling.

I've seen a wall with teal on the bottom and a dark tan on top. Beautiful.

I'm a fan of white ceilings so i'd keep it white. If you want to stay neutral i'd do a darker tan/sand color for the bottom and lighter for the small section on top.

If you want a pop of color (a slate gray-blue or sage usually go with most comforter patterns) i'd do it on the small section.

Some ideas:

Thanks for the ideas! I actually was thinking of not painting the ceiling at all! It's white and it looks clean so I was just going to skip it. Chat Icon

Thank you so much for the pictures!! You're awesome! The first picture is what I was thinking of. Although I do like the idea of putting a different color up there too. But then I feel like I would be tied to that color scheme.

I would say darker on the bottom lighter on the top althought I LOOOOOOVE the idea of putting blue up there, and also think you could do a lot of comforter sets with that.
