i haven't done trend research to know which ones get pushed to the bottom, and which ones don't
but hey, if it's not getting the traction you want, and it's getting pushed down, bump the thread

OR,,,instead of eleventy billion politics thread...there'd be eleventy billion XPOST to politics threads still causing the same traffic jam on the NFR board

Two words - thread consolidation.
Duplicates/similar topics of threads get a) locked or b) consolidated.
And not just for politics - but for American Idol too.
Once people realize that their thread is going to be killed, they'll stop posting a million new ones and post in the appropriate thread that already exists.

it'll be over in a few months and noone will be talking about it anymore
this highlights the overall problem IMO
some people are ONLY talking about it because its got buzz & the rag, slanted media aka enertainment networks of our country are covering it.
It will be over & whatever the outcome Americans will just get on with it.
There hasn't been much talk about any of the other signifigant upcoming elections around here.
Last year nobody wanted to talk about conservation, recycling & breaking our addiction to oil....then America got the green BUZZ & every facet of our marketing & advertising is flooded with it.
Corperations are profiting off the sheeple again.
Lets keep talking about politics, anyone of us here can take our strong opinions all the way to the top if we really wanted to!

NFR is cyclical anyway. Right NOW because it’s all over the news, people are talking about Palin, just like 90210 and NKOTB have a bunch of threads. NFR is a place to discuss what’s current. It will die down until the ‘October surprise’

I'm a political moron. A politics board would scare me. But I think politics should be here where it affects us most. I am beyond devastated that my stepdaughters know who was in American idol from season one and can't tell me who is running for president. Disgusted actually.....

I like the idea of consolidation of threads, although moderating of any kind usually isn't tolerated well by the masses here.
One billion spinoffs very similar in nature usually turn into a duplication of comments.

I agree; but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Move any complaining posts to the This Sucks board.
