 Brushing teeth...2 year olds
How do you get your 2 year olds teeth brushed? I have tried every toothbrush...electric toothbrush, Elmo toothbrush, regular toothbrush like mommy...DD will take the toothbrush and chew on it, play with it, but won't let me brush her teeth It turns into her screaming and me getting frustrated, and I don't want her to be afraid of getting her teeth brushed!
  Any tips/tricks you can share?

 Re: Brushing teeth...2 year olds
Theres a dvd callled Wake up with Elmo..does she like Elmo? DO you have it? It has a whole segment about brushing teeth. It helped a lot here. I would refer to elmo brushing his teeth and she would let me do it. I NEVER gave her the toothbrush because I know the second I do that, she will NEVER let me do it again. Its the one thing that Megan does pretty easily, thank god!

We used to make it a game. "Who is hiding behind Maddie's teeth?" I used to brush the characters from behind her teeth & look for Elmo, Power Rangers, whatever it took.
Later we would brush food away.

i'd brush me teeth w/ DS or we would take turns; he brushes mine & then i'd brush his! make it a game. he now does it all by himself w/ no problems!

2 toothbrushes.
One for her to hold / play with; One for me to brush her teeth with.

Kim, this is what we do also. I try to brush as much as I can then let him do it after I do. At least I know I am getting most of it I also do it after his bath so I snuggle him up in his towel and brush his teeth that way. He doesn't seem to squirm quite as much that way either

Yes, DS actually likes brushing his teeth so we have no issues

 Re: Brushing teeth...2 year olds

  I have tried this...didn't work
It's funny...because after bath, I make a big deal out of brushing teeth...she runs to the bathroom, waits for me to hand her the toothbrush, puts it in her mouth and then won't let me in there either with her brush or another one. If I show her that I'm brushing my teeth with the other toothbrush...she takes hers and tries to brush my teeth...but won't let me do it to her

Basically, I hold him down and brush his teeth. He hates it, I hate it. But it has to be done!!!

 Re: Brushing teeth...2 year olds
I wedge my finger in the corner of his mouth and in behind the teeth so if he bites down, my finger is between 2 gums. Sometimes he lets me brush but most times he likes to chew on the brush and that is why I do the finger thing. I don't know if my explanation gives a good visual but it works well.

This was our method until our DD had a breath holding attack during it. Oops. We try our best but DD is NOT cooperative. We go to the dentist for the first time in a few weeks so we'll see what they say.
