Found a few hundred in travelers checks

i found many travelers checks on the subway....

Is this found money like cash?

or

Is it like someone lost their credit card or bank account checks and i should notify someone?
call American express?

they are only like cash to the original purchaser

when they realize they lost them- they can cancel them and get new ones

I would personally call Amex and let them know you found them- and they can notify the purchaser and re-issue them if they haven't already

were they already signed by the person.. if not they are like money

i would also call there are numbers on them sometimes people make copies of the papers that come in them

be careful if they are not signed...DH just arrested someone for counterfeiting American Express Travelers checks...

I bet the Travelers Checks are from people that got pickpocketed.

I would return them to the police station.

There should be 2 places for signatures on the travelers checks . In theory you are supposed to sign once when you get them and then again when you use them. Contact the issuer of the travelers check ie: American Express, perhaps they keep a record.

I would call Amex - They are not like found money - when you get them they come with a number so if they are lost the owner can report the number and get a new one. This is why some people use them when traveling so if they are lost or stolen they are not out the money provided they have the check numbers.
