Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?...UPDATE
Rylan has had a rash going on about 2 weeks now. I tried using Balmex and Triple Paste but nothing worked...i'm also constantly changing his diaper. I went for a well visit last tuesday and his Dr prescribed Nystatin....he said it was a yeast infection. It hasn't gotten any better...actually worse. It's on his hiney and above his peeshe...not actually on it. It doesn't bother him at all...he still smiles and laughs when i'm changing him...thank god!
If your DC had a yeast infection how long did it take to go away? The Dr said if I wanted I can use something else on top of the Nystatin...i'm going to try that too. I'm trying to decide if I should take him in again.
Also is it contagious? I don't want to bring him around other children if it is.
The ped prescribed another cream Nystatin/Triamcinolone...AKA Miracle cream. It's to be used 3X a day...I used it 2X today and it's almost gone already!!!!! Thanks for all of the advice ladies!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
DS got it in his inner thigh and folds of his neck from sweating. We were given Oxistat. I put it on the red areas twice a day for two days and now put baby cornstarch in those areas everyday to prevent it from coming back. So far, it's worked great...no more problems!

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
Dawn... K had something similar on her lala, and I used the Nystatin on her. I gave up on it b/c it would constantly come back. Now I don't put any creams on her except for on her tush (A&D), and I sprinkle cornstarch on her with EVERY diaper change.
It's gone away NEVER to resurface!
Good luck!!!!!!

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
Emily had that a few tims when she was younger. The docs told us that it was very common. Over the past 2.5 years since i've been on this site it has been asked about a lot, so I do think it is fairly common.
Anyway I found that it rubbed off onto her diaper very easily. I would put the Boudroux's Butt Paste on over it, which was thicker and I felt like it "held it on."
Also, try and air him out as much as possible. The air helps to dry it off. She was young when she got it, so I'd let her go diaperless and would just put a big towel under her incase she ended up going without a diaper on. I'd keep it off for about 15 minutes after a diaper change before putting another one on her.

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
I just went through the same thing with the same cream as well. The thing that finally cleared it (I think) was that I stopped using wipes. They seemed to be making the rash even brighter. I cleaned him with warm water, a tiny bit of soap and then dried him with another wash cloth and rubbed in the cream. I also let him lay in the crib every morning without a diaper for a few minutes on a towel. Good luck!

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
DS has had a rash under his chin (neck) for about 6 weeks now. I finally took him to the DR last week and she gave me Nystatin to put on it (3x/day). She told me it should clear up w/in 5 days...it looks like it is getting better, but i still see it - today was day 5. She also told me to put CortAid on it 1x a day (its not rx-u can get it over the counter)...i dont know if you can put that on the "diaper" area though??
OH - she also asked if i wiped his face/neck with baby wipes...i do when we are out after he eats snacks. she told me to stop using the wipes bc it might be a reaction to them. maybe you should try changing wipes? i was at BRU today and they had the chlorine-free ones for 2 for $6...i am gonna try using them and see if it makes a difference...

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
We just had this problem last week. Dr prescribed Nystatin & 2 days later it got so much worse I took DD back to Dr & they told me to try Lotrimin instead. You can find it in the Foot problem aisle at drug store. It is also used to treat Athletes foot. It worked GREAT! & I have already stopped using it.

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
DD has bad rashes. The nystatin did nothing for her. She got her rashes around her belly where the diaper was and gets red down there. The dr prescribed some steriod for the belly area which cleared up the rash really fast and we can only use Huggies or 7th Generation...she's allergic to Pampers.

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
I used Nystatin and felt like it didn't work. We went back and she prescribed Vusion which worked so much better, and I felt like it was less harsh on his little hiney than the Nystatin.

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
DS also had it under his neck and we used baking soda, which was working, but it did not work on his tushee only his neck. For his tushee we used caldesene . That worked wonders in just two-three diaper changes. I highly recommend it.

This is exactly what my mom said to do also. I'm going to try it today.

When I call the ped today i'm definitely going to ask about this...I don't think the Nystatin is doing anything at all.

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
Thanks guys!! I'm going to ask about the prescription creams and if they don't give it to me i'll try the drugstore remedies. Thankfully it doesn't bother him at all.
Nobody said whether it was contagious or not. I'm thinking no but would hate to bring him children if it was.

The dr told us it would go away in two weeks. DS's did not go away and they decided it wasn't a yeast infection.

Re: Yeast infection/Nystatin cream?
when this happened to DS we used Lotrimin (OTC) twice a day. I would put it on with his first diaper in the morning and his last diaper at night. In between I would use Triple Paste, always cleared up in a day or two.
