LIVID with rental agency! - LONG VENT!

DH and I moved to our new house in April. Our lease on our apartment was up on May 31st. We did not break it, but paid a month of overlap, and fully expected to get our security deposit back.

We sent back our lease renewal form within the 60 day time frame saying that we were NOT renewing. A few weeks later, we received it back with post it notes stuck to each copy telling us to check off whether we were renewing for 1 or 2 years!!! I called the office the next day, and they apologized for the error and told me to send it back with a note.

After we moved out, DH had a conversation with the rental company and faxed them our new address to send the refunded security deposit.

Shortly after we moved out, our friend, who liked our apartment, went to see it, and told us that they had totally ripped everything out and were redoing it. So, they were obviously well-aware that we had left!

Fast forward a few months, and we have not received our deposit. DH was planning on calling the company this week.

Today, we get a letter in our mailbox from the company's law firm saying that we owe two months rent from June and July!!!!!!

We can't do anything about this until Monday, but I am absolutely steaming! DH left a message for the company to call us first thing on Monday. I said that we should get a lawyer right away, but he wants to talk to them first.

I wouldn't call

I would go there first thing money with all of the paperwork you have
