Be careful pumping your own gas..
take the keys out of the car with you and lock the doors before you start..someone I work with stopped at a gas station in Patchogue on Friday morning and left her keys in the car with her purse and briefcase on the passenger seat..when she was done the passenger door was open, the keys and her bags were gone. By the time she was able to get home and start making calls on the credit cards, the thieves already had used them at the SmithHaven Mall.

When I lived in NY, I NEVER left my keys in the car at the gas station!
Now that I live in NJ where you are not allowed to pump your gas, I don't worry about that.

That's terrible! Even when I pump myself and use a cc at the pump I lock my car. Maybe I'm just neurotic!

i'm too paranoid about that. i NEVER leave my keys in the car---i take them with me, leave my purse maybe--but i lock the doors as i'm pumping gas.

that happened to a friend of mine when she was pregnant. She started chasing after the guy and then realized that her attempt to catch him was a bad idea.

Both our vehicles lock the doors automatically when you get out of the car. We've gotten used to always having our keys in our hand when we leave the car that it's never been a problem. With the car auto-locking, we never have to think about locking the door, it does it by itself.

I dont' leave the keys in my car- but I do leave my purse on the passenger seat- but my gas tank is on the passenger side-so I am standing RIGHT there while I pump... I don't see how anyone could get in my car without me seeing them. 
My alarm is passive too- so after about 30 seconds it automatically arms- the doors dont' lock on their own- but the alarm would ring if someone opened the door....

They had a story about this in the paper, it was on the news~one of the gas stations had actually caught this "new" thing on camera.
I hope your friend gets all her stuff in order

ugh - I'm glad I always lock...I just don't trust people!
although in Madrid, you can't even have your purse out in sight if you are IN the car! They will grab it while you are right there! (This happened to DH's cousin)

This was a big thing in Florida. The police dept put out a video on it. IT was happeneing a lot maybe last year or the year before. I always put my purse under my (driver) front seat when I get out to pump and FACE the car.
The video showed them sneaking in to the car on the passanger side and not closing it so it wouldn't make a noise. When you get in to drive away the door flies open and you know you've been hit

There was an email about this not too long ago..........and ever since I read it......I take the keys w/ me and lock all doors with the remote.

My car is the same way so thankfully this probably won't be an issue for me, but I will be sure to lock the doors and take my keys with me the next time I pump gas just in case!

If they really wanted to, they could hop in and grab your stuff from the driver's side of the car.
I do leave the keys in my car while pumping I have the kind of locks that when I unlock the doors only the driver side door unlocks first so the other doors remain locked. If for some reason all the doors are unlocked I take my keys out and lock the doors.

Anywhere I go I never leave my keys in my car. I even lock the door while I am pumping gas due to I am more afraid of carjacking then my pocketbook.

This happened to me in Queens. Some azz distracted me by talking to me in Spanish while his buddy skulked over to my passenger door and stole my brand new coach wallet(I got it for my 30th birthday)
