advice needed/ high risk pregancy doctors
I just found out that I am pregnant again after having a stillbirth at 22 weeks. My ob insists on sending me to Madonna Perinatology for this pregnancy. I would prefer to be under the care of a perinatologist affiliated with North Shore. Both Madonna and North Shore doctors would be covered by my insurance, but I do need a referral by my OB who is not being cooperative. I feel that my best option at this time would be to switch to a North shore OB who would then refer me to a North shore perinatologist.
Can anyone recommend a compassionate OB who is affiliated with North Shore? Has anyone had any experience with Madonna Perinatology? If so, do you feel that I am justified in wanting to switch to North Shore doctors? My husband and I were devastated by our previous pregnancy outcome and we want to see the best doctors for this pregnancy.

Re: advice needed/ high risk pregancy doctors
I am so sorry for what you have been through!
As far as Madonna is concerned, I do not like that they work in tandem with your OB, as opposed to being your OB. I also found their office staff rude and exceptionally unhelpful, especially so when I had an emergency, and they only told me to go the hospital (they're high-risk specialists?!?).
If NSUH is where you are comfortable, perhaps you should contact their LD nurses station and ask for a recommendation. Those nurses tend to know everything!
You do not need your OB being uncooperative at this time, and I am sorry for that additional stress! Good luck!!!

Don't know where you are located, but Dr. Vohra in Great Neck is an excellent high risk dr affiliated with North Shore Manhasset. I only had a few consultations with her at the request of my OB, but she was wonderful. Let me know if you would like more info.

I agree with the PP. If you will feel most comfortable with NSUH then go there. Your doc should not be making this difficult for you.
For a NS OB/GYN you can call directly to the dept and get an appt with an OB at the hospital.
My OB is located near NS, delivers at NS, and refers to NS if you'd like a recommendation.
Good luck to you!

Re: advice needed/ high risk pregancy doctors
Dr. Robert Griggs Jr in East Meadow. I had a condition during pregnancy that caused countless complications and Madonna together with my OB helped me deliver a healthy baby girl. In fact Dr. klein sensed they would have to deliver early and gave me steroids the Friday night I beleive and I delivered Sunday night at 32 weeks. Dr. Klein has interesting bedside manner BUT he knows his stuff.

I also see Dr. Kofinas in his Garden City office, even though I live in Brooklyn (better parking). He is wonderful!!!

Re: advice needed/ high risk pregancy doctors
I LOVE LOVE LOVE MADONNA!
I cannot rave enough about the care I received there.
I too had a stillborn at the same time as you...I also had a m/c and trouble getting pregnant...along with a trillion pregnancy issues.
They were awesome. They saw me sometimes 3 times a week. Notified my Dr of any changes immediatly and would monitor me drastically for any little changes.
Dr. Klein was my "main" Dr. and he is sooo thorough.
I had 2 scares during my last pregnancy and I feel that they are the ones who got me to 39 weeks in that PG.
From someone who is terrified of losing her pregnancies, I felt 100% safe in their care.
I would tell you in a heartbeat if I had any concerns since I know what you have been through.
eta- I went to the babylon office vs the one in garden city I think it is. And I do think that made a difference. Its smaller and less patients and the staff was much nicer.
