we have a separate well and sick area...not a separate closed off room for the sick kids but different areas. I never wait more than 20 min to be called in. FM me for the info if interested.

Separate waiting rooms for sick, well and infants. But like someone said the germs are airborne because that sick kid walked down the hall right before you or you were put into his room after he left.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
My old pediatrician had seperate areas but the toys were constantly being moved between sick and well children anyway. The wait was always 45min plus.
My new pediatrician has one waiting area but the wait is rarely more than ten min. He tries to schedule well visits all around the same time of day so the well kids are seen around the same time. I love my new pediatrician and feel that the two waiting rooms make no difference.

We don't have separate areas. They always take newborns into an examing room immediately. I would have preferred separate waiting rooms, but I love the doctor so it isn't a big deal to me.
SAme here...I love the dr. dd sees now. The previous dr we had, had a separate rooms but I didn't care for him too much.

Mine is well & sick together.. Then both well & sick children go in the same examing rooms.. So anything airborne etc. would still be in the hallway and examining rooms.. regardless of the waiting room situation.
Mine as well....
ETA: However I do believe that all sick visits are scheduled later in the day.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
Mine has separate well and sick, it's basically a wall that divides it. I have honestly never waited more than 5 mins. in the waiting room. I book well visits for the 1st appt. Sat. AMs if I can.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
In theory mine does.
Separate entrances (which some parents DO NOT respect), separate waiting rooms, separate examination rooms,etc..
BUT in reality we all go to the same counter to sign in, pay and get our next appt. So in essence you could be signing in and you have a sick child with his mom right behind you waiting to sign in too.
I have also been sent to a "well" room when DS was sick because they did not not have enough "sick" rooms. And I know they don't clean the room afterwards except that flimsy piece of paper on the table.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
Nope. But I never wait long anyway....and honestly, germs will travel...and just because you wait in a "well" area doesn't mean you aren't going to be in the exam room where a sick child just was. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to prevent exposure to germs at the doctors office. I always purell his hands after our visit.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
No but I don't wait that long. When he was a newborn I waited in the hallway or they had an empty office that I would wait in.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
Athan's pediatrician has 2 separate waiting areas as well. And since it is a very busy practice, I always schedule for the first appointment of the day - at 6:00 am so I don't wait at all while there and can then drop off DS at my mom's and be at work well before 8:00 am.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
Yes. They have a sick waiting room and a well waiting room, plus a separate waiting room for newborns & infants. However, all of these rooms are in very close proximety to the others, so I really don't think it makes a difference. And, you have to sign in right by the "sick waiting room", so you're standing near the germs anyway.

Re: does your pediatrician have a separate well and sick waiting rooms?
Mine does and then has a seperate newborn (0-3) waiting room too. The only bad thing is the sick and well are just across from one another, no real barrier btwn them and the toys get mixed up btwn both sides.. so defiates the point of having seperate areas. Plus i dont like how you have to walk through the sick area to get to the newborn room.
