Well, we can't convert to gas even if we wanted to
DH called National Grid to inquire about gas conversion and they told him that the Town of Oyster Bay will not approve our steet ground to be digged for gas until mid 2009 minimum since the street was ALREADY digged into too many times over the years. Yeah.. nice!!!!

I live in a corner lot. The other street has it but since it's not the official street address (just my side yard) I can't use it to connect to it. I am 45 ft from the line.

Same for us - it's 1000 feet away, so all of the neighbors down the street would need to get it before we could.

Re: Well, we can't convert to gas even if we wanted to
We had to plead our case to the Village of Lindenhurst so that we could get our gas line. At first they would not, but when we went down there they told us they would talk with National Grid and see what they could do to make it a minimal about of breakage in the street. Only one small hole was made on the otherside of the street and everyone was happy in the end. We had just gotten the whole block resurfaced a month prior, that is why they were giving us a hard time. Maybe you could go and plead your case directly with your town. GL!

You can poll your neighbors and see if they want in. You never know - a lot of them could be interested in converting - esp nowadays!

Problem is - it's bunch of retirees on a fixed income, and they stay in their home all day. We've met them a total of once...

Same for us. We are the "youngest" couple on our street. We are in an older neighborhood. Which in a way I love (it's quiet!).
