Cerclage?

Not sure where to post this but long story short my dr told me I need this next time I am pg. My dr had it all planned out and now isn't delivering anymore. I am curious of any info you may have on having one. What week you got it, how it's done, pain afterward, bed rest or not? I want to know as much as I can before I talk to my new dr about it! Thanks!

Re: Cerclage?

We lost our son @ 22 weeks due to incompetent cervix.
If I get PG again, my OB is going to do it at 8 weeks (as soon as there is a heartbeat) in order to avoid any risk to the amniotic sac.
Most Drs. do it between 13 and 20 weeks. The weight of the baby on the cervix is what causes it to shorten and open.
I have heard nothing but success stories regarding cerclage. They basically loop a stitch around the cervix and cinch it closed. You do have to go under for the cerclage and my Dr. to ld me a week of total bedrest after, then normal activity during the pregnancy.

Re: Cerclage?

Hi I had a cerclage put in at 20 weeks, My cervix should have been a 4 and it shortened to a 1 so I was under a scope with appts. 3x a week then I was put on strict bedrest, they are usually done at about 13 weeks, so my next pregnancy I will go in at about 13 weeks then I will be put on moderate bedrest. And the dr appts won't be so bad.. They give you a Spinal Anesthesia, the surgery last about 20-30 minutes. Ask all your questions I went in for my 20 week and that night I was rushed to emergency, I had so many questions and no time to prepare, but while I was on bedrest I read up on everything and I will be much more prepared. They took the stitch out at about 36 1/2 weeks and I had her by 37 weeks, but I have heard stories that even after they take it out you can still carry baby to full term.. If you have any other questions please ask..

Re: Cerclage?

Thanks for the responses ladies. It's so scary going into a pregnancy knowing you will have complications.

This is kind of how it happened to me with my DS, I went in for a routine check up and they rushed me to the hospital, but I was 27 weeks and too far along for a cerclage
