FIOS vs Time Warner

Verizon is going to be in my building tomorrow doing a sales pitch. I am interested in getting some pricing and service info from them but I would love some first hand feedback.

Has anyone made the switch from Time Warner cable to FIOS? If so, were you happy with the change? How does the internet service match up? Do you regret changing? Is there any savings?

Thanks!!

Re: FIOS vs Time Warner

My parents switched to FiOS and they are in the process of switching back to cable (though Cablevision, not time warner). They never were able to get reliable Internet service. It was SLOW -- on any computer you used. Verizon checked all their hardware and the modem, they had a computer guy in as well. My cousin works for Verizon (installs FiOS) and said there's nothing wrong with the set up -- for whatever reason, they are just getting crappy (and intermittent) internet service.

They liked the TV and had no complaints about the phone, though. I also know a lot of people who have verizon internet with no problems...

Thanks Kara, that's what I am afraid of. I don't even care about the TV service as much as the internet connection.

Diana, Do you want me to ask when they will be available in Brooklyn?

Chris, I am looking for a comparison b/w TW & Fios. Thanks for replying!

Thanks for the offer Christine!! But I'm hopefully moving into my new house on long island this week so I won't need it.

Re: FIOS vs Time Warner

we had the verison and switched back to Cable. The version services were great the tv picture was actually better than cable but the custumer service was horrendous.

We were promised one price and charged another every month. We would call and they would yes us to death about getting the price adjusted and it was never done. The phone, internet and cable are all different departments so getting a stright answer on a charge is a nightmare.

We discounected in March and TODAY - JULY 7th - I finally got a straight answer on what i owe after numerous conflicting bills and calls to verison. (yet they were able to pick a past due ammount and send that to collections, yet evey time I called for a final bill no one could come up with an exact amount). One time i called i was transfered to a completely different company in the middle of my call. The lady from the other company said it happened all the time!!

What annoyed me the most was that the sales guy promised one price and after months of false promises we were told that Verison could not control what the sales people tell us so they couldn't honor the price that he gave us.

Re: FIOS vs Time Warner

I have had it for over a year now, I have only ever had 1 problem with the tv, no problems with the internet or phone. I work for verizon and actually sell FIOS.

Re: FIOS vs Time Warner

I used to have Time Warner when I lived in Manhattan, and I have FIOS now that I live on LI. The picture quality on TV is hands down better with FIOS. Also, our internet works extremely well. Our cable/internet/phone package worked out better with FIOS as well.

The only problem with FIOS, which others have mentioned, is customer service. When you finally get a human being on the phone, they keep making billing errors. We kept getting extra charges for a box that we returned months ago and every month we had to call to get the money credited back. Eventually the problem was solved once and for all, but it took a good couple months. Despite that headache, we found the service worth it. Our cable and internet have never gone out and works great. If you do decide to switch, keep on top of the bills!
