Moms of 2 some questions please!

I am a regular poster on parenting but hiding for now. I just found out the other day that I am in the very early stages of PG. I have been in a state of shock since, but now that I am coming back down to earth, I realize I have some planning to do! So if the BTDT moms of 2 would be so kind, I have a few questions.

What is the age difference in your LOs?

What are the new challeneges when PG with the second?

What other adjustments did you have to make in your life. Did you need a new car for 2 car seats? Does each child have their own room or is there one nursery?

TIA!Chat Icon

Re: Moms of 2 some questions please!

Congrats!!

my kids are 30 and 25 months apart.

Getting a new routine and finding time for the older one(s) in the 1st few months were my challenges.

I was lucky that my lease was up each time I had a new kidChat Icon I went from a Passat with 1, MDX with 2, Odyssey with 3. Just more money planning is involved with each additional child. If my house weren't split (2 beds up 2 down) they would each have their own rooms.

Re: Moms of 2 some questions please!

mine are 17.5 mths apart and #2 and 3 will be 15 months apart.

While PG...the hardest part was being tired. DD would want to play, and I wanted to rest/nap. I found myself nodding off around 5 for a 10 min power nap while she watched tv.

Cooking has ALWAYS been a challenge. I find myself having DH BBQ more than 1 meal on his days off and I use the crockpot ALOT.

Same goes for this time around.....it's tough keeping up with the energy levels of toddlers when you need to rest.

My children are 3 years 3 weeks apart

Much more difficult to rest during your 1st and 3rd trimester. The only other thing was lifting my daughter at the very end.

We bought a mini van.

We moved my daughter into my office and made it a big girl room. I loved my nursery and it was neutral, so the baby is in there. We had to do a spring cleaning and get rid a lot of stuff to make room for the new little one.

CONGRATS!!!!!

What is the age difference in your LOs?
18 months

What are the new challeneges when PG with the second?
Not being able to rest and lifting DD at the end. I had a very hard time with giving her a bath towards the end because of the bending down and lifting.

What other adjustments did you have to make in your life. Did you need a new car for 2 car seats?
We traded in our Jeep Liberty for Honda Pilot. Definitely could not fit 2 car seats in the Liberty. We also have a Honda Accord which fits both seats.

Does each child have their own room or is there one nursery? DD is still in a crib and has her own room. We converted the guest room to a bedroom for DS

My DS is only 2 weeks old and I'm having a hard time finding a routine and figuring out how to find time for DD. She's having a bit of a hard time with it all too. I'm hoping we all get into the swing of things soon!!!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the age difference in your LOs?

They are 20 months apart.

Like a lot of the other posters said, resting during your pregnancy. I was sick the whole first 3 months and that was challenging. Also, at the end of my pregnancy, I had a hard time bending over and lifting things up.

What other adjustments did you have to make in your life.
It's a whole new world with 2 little ones. It isn't just double the work, it's about 10x the work. But it's all worth it.
Did you need a new car for 2 car seats?
No, I have a trailblazer and it fits both carseats.

Does each child have their own room or is there one nursery?
We moved into a new house when I was pregnant so dd got a "girl's room" since the nursery was gender neutral.

DS has his own room and when we redo it for when he's older, he'll get a boy's room

ITA: It takes awhile in the beginning to establish a routine. At about when ds was 2 weeks old, I started getting into a day time routine so I could get out of the house. For me, I have to get out of the house or I go stir crazy so I started taking the 2 of them out when he was about 1 week old and it took about a week to get comfortable with it. Now that ds is 2 months old, I still get out everyday even though it doesn't seem worth it sometimes.

Thanks everyone! We are freaking a little bit, but are cautiously excited. I go to the Dr on Monday to make sure the HCG levels are still doubling. As of the other day they were doubling every .85 days.

Regarding the cars, I have been looking at a Trailblazer. I am glad to get a first-hand account of how it fits two seats. The LOs will both be under 2, and I am thinking of also what stroller I'll need. I did not want a double to be honest, but I am not sure LO #1 will be ready for a sit & stand one yet. Its too much to think about all at once!

Re: Moms of 2 some questions please!

My DD and my DS are 23 months apart. My DS and this baby will be 16 months apart.

I wouldn't say there are any Challenges when PG with the second, but you get more tired because you have to still play with/chase around your first dc!

I have a Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and I can fit all 3 carseats in mine. We considered buying a minivan, but decided we would rather just pay this off. We can fit all 3 carseats in so we don't want to start all over on a car loan.

When I had my first DS, he and my DD had their own rooms.Baby #3is a boy, so he and my DS will be sharing. I found a nursery theme that also has stuff that will match for todler beds, so it worked out nicely.
