I think I have racoons in my roof!!!

So last night at about midnight I hear sounds outside. It sounded like scratching and pulling of wood. I would hear it every 5 minutes. I went into an upstairs bedroom with a flashlight, shone the light out the window, and see two gray triangle ears peer over the gutters!!Chat Icon I never saw a face; just the ears but I'm convinced it was a raccoon. We have damage to the wood near the gutters and it looks like a shingle on the roof is lifted.

Soooo, now what do I do? Do I call some wildlife rescue or a company that specializes in getting rid of wildlife that are living in my house rent free?

Re: I think I have racoons in my roof!!!

we had a raccoon in my old house in the attic.....he gained access by climbing a tree up to the roof and ripping a hole right by the gutter. we called a company that used humane traps and released him in the woods. they used marshmallows in the trap (had no idea raccoons liked them!!). make sure you get him out of there before he starts a family, I had read when a raccoon gets comfy with a place even if the original hole (or area of access) gets boarded up they will find a way back in. good luck!!

My mom had them in her attic. The minute the lights went out, she would hear them scurrying in her ceiling. They took the mom, dumped her in the woods over a mile away and she made her way back to the house Chat Icon It started getting humerous because those things were always outsmarting her.

My BIL has them living above him at his apt and the landlord has tried everything.

What finally worked was buying coyote urine and pouring it near the area they are gaining entrance to the house/apt and then boarding up the area.

My BIL hasn't had the visitors return over the last month.

My neighbor said the same think. I think he used fox urine, but with the same effect. He got his on-line. You should be able to do some simple searches on Google to find it.

My father told me he bought some at HD/Lowes to place around his gardens to keep the bunnies away. That is upstate, tho.
