Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
WHOA
hold up a second
NY has schools without A/C?? Jezus !!
where the hell do we live? One of the largest metropolitan areas in the country and they expect our children to learn in such an environment?!??!?!
RIDICULOUS!
I feel so bad for the teachers. I heard Philly actually closed schools today (its on CNN) and they plan to close early tomorrow too.
I'm just shocked that there are schools iwthout A/C. Other than teachers (of course).. most mommies and daddies work in an AC place.. HECK I HAVE A SWEATER ON RIGHT NOW AS I TYPE THIS.. but you expect our children to suffer?!?!?
I need to move. 5 years and counting!

In my experience, most schoools in the area DONT have any a/c... we have enough issues with getting the budget to pass as is... let alone adding the cost of a/c to all buildings... i dont think that will ever happen!

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
well I made it through the day! The lights were off, the blinds were low, and it was rough! We were told to shut off all computers in the afternoon. At least my AP relieved me of my hall duty. My feet are now small balloons of the likeness I have not seen before! I've been wearing flip flops a size and half larger than what I normally wear but they wouldn't fit all the way on my feet by the afternoon. I'm not sure I can do this tomorrow. I have 10 days until I'm due and my OB may be inducing me early (I'll talk to him later).

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
Ugh, the classroom was unBEARable today! I drank so much water, I thought I would float away.
Every now and then I felt nauseus, but I just drank more water and snacked on pretzels and felt better.
Stay cool, ladies!

Our building has CAC, but it died around 11 it seemed. The 4th floor was just horrific. I went through nearly 3.5 liters of water. I'm not so sure what to do about tomorrow.....

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
It wasn't sooo bad for me - but I am in Ac for part of the day. I told my students at the beginning of class that if I wasn't complaining- they couldn't either! However, I have a lovely new symptom of cankles. I drank 3 quarts already today and I have only gone to the bathroom 3 x. I called the doctor and they said that that was pretty normal.

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
I survived but barely today!!! We kept the lights off all day and did nothing but watch movies because it was too insanely hot to do anything else. We have a thermometer in our classroom and by lunchtime the temp. in our room was up to 110 degrees and I kid you not!! We took pics with our cell phone to document it. Cruel and unusual punishment much????? I am dreading going back tomorrow!!!

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
Yet another update.
The a/c unit in my room has been condemned. The service person had to put in for a new one. It may take a couple of week which will suk.
That being said, me being PG is by far not the only issue. I teach special ed and a good portion of our students are on medication. It is critical that they are cool or they can get sick. Pretty sad when their school buses have proper ventilation and their classrooms don't. Thanks to a few other teachers and clinical staff members, we were able to be relocated for a decent part of the day.

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
YES! Many teachers in my wing are buying AC's and having their DH's install them tomorrow. I don't have the money to invest in a work AC when we still need them in the home we live in. Today was miserable and I feel like calling in sick tomorrow.

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
i made it!! i sat in front of a fan today.. my coworkers kept bringing me cold water.. they're the best! my kids were miserable though.. i had the lights off, the windows open and they got no relief.. i let them sit and talk quietly.. i may put on a movie tomorrow..
i wish my school had ac.. apparently down stairs in the building was cooler.. but upstairs where i was was unbearable.. putting in our own ac's is'nt even an option because of the windows they have in the building..
pisses me the F*ck off cause central administration has Ac but we're sitting around suffering.

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
To those who don't have adequate AC at work. Please be careful. Last summer when I was pregnant my doctor gave me strict orders to stay home during a heatwave. I had a heart condition on top of the pregnancy but he told me that he was giving this instruction to ALL pregnant patients because the heat is just so risky!!!!!

Re: Any other teachers worried about tomorrow with no AC?
Good luck today again ladies! Lots of water and even a cold washcloth in a ziploc baggie with ice water in it might help.
