Into the Wild... I didn't get the ending... Spoilers alert...
So I wasn't paying much attention to the movies ending. He had some poison right. Yes he died but was it by accident?

It was accidental. I knew what was going to happen and the film still made me cry.
Read the book - John Krakauer did a great job with it and goes into more detail than a film would allow.

In the book I thought he just died of malnutrition and hypothermia...

He ate those leaves by accident, and I think they helped weaken him and speed up his death.

He confused two different plants - one is edible the other is inedible, but they look the same for a very short period of time.
He ate the inedible one and it makes the stomach reject food...so he couldn't keep food down even when he did eat. Basically, he starved to death.
