Silly question, but for my shower I received large quilted mattress pad covers...

Do I put it underneath the sheet? they dont fit the entire mattress but if I put it on top of the sheet it will be loose, and everyhting I read says not to put anything loose underneath the baby.....

also, is there something to lay underneath the baby on top of the sheet, in case the piddle and the mattress might get wet??/
