How do you ask for NO toys for a 1st birthday?
Should it be put on the invite? Should I limit the "restriction" to family via phone/e-mail only?
My friggen house is over-run with toys, half of which they don't even look at!!
And the kid is set for summer clothes....what do I do if he gets MORE summer clothes???

We did that by word of mouth and even then NO ONE LISTENS. They love to buy toys for babies. You can try to spread it word of mouth, but i wouldnt put it on the invite.
Maybe have a theme, like books, bring a book instead of toys, or make a donation to your favorite charity instead of a gift.

We did "Your presence is the only present we would like." or something like that.
Didn't matter. What it did was cause the people that listened to or request to feel bad when the people that didn't listen gave gifts anyway.
Maybe an educational account spread by word of mouth?

what about saying something on the invite like:
our son has been blessed with so much already, any toys (gifts) that will be received we will donate to our local hospital.
or something along those lines

Re: How do you ask for NO toys for a 1st birthday?
My best friend sent out invites that mentioned it.
The invite itself was a laminated bookmark with her son's picture on it and the invite said something to the about bringing books to help his library grow instead of toys.
Wish I could find it to tell you exactly what it said... it was very cute!

I have to be honest, if I went to a party and the invite said no presents, I would still probably buy a little something, just because I wanted to.

Everyone wants to give a baby a toy or something. I dont think you can put it on the invite not to bring gifts.
I do like the book idea for gifts though to help the library grow!.....

This is a really good idea. Rob and I sweep through the kids toyroom once a month and thin the herd by giving gently used toys to a few different places - our son's nursery school, the local Y, our pediatrician's office and we always have a huge amount for when the charity collectors come around. They appreciate it and we are grateful to get rid of the excess.

Re: How do you ask for NO toys for a 1st birthday?
I think when people ask, you can tell them. Also, word of mouth really works in my family. Otherwise, people will still buy gifts. You can always return the toys and Summer clothes (as long as there are gift receipts) and get what you want.

Re: How do you ask for NO toys for a 1st birthday?
I would never, ever write on an invite "no toys" or something even cutesy to say it...people will buy toys and clothes and usually give a receipt..and if they don't, well there is always store credit or regifting if need be. I loved everything my son got at his bday...for some reason he got a ton of clothing and we really needed it!
