I'm so sorry to read that you Mom is in CICU!! I pray that she makes a full and speedy recovery. You are so right about teaching your children right so they work together to make decisions about what is best for the family. My Dad and StepMom raised us the same way.

Of all people, I understand your situation with your mom and you know that you have all of my support. My mom has diabetes and has had 6 heart attacks in the past 1.5 years, including when her heart completely stopped while I was driving my car.
I will hope and pray for your mom's health so that she will be around to see little Ed-lie's introduction into a great family.

Leslie..any updates on your mom?
Thanks for asking. I am currently in the ICU waiting room waiting for the next visiting hour to start.
Mom is quite groggy but resting. We are getting her an air mattress to help her with her ciculation so she doesn't develop bed sores. This will help her a great deal.
I'll be here til sister #2 comes to relieve me at around 8 or so - could be sooner.
I don't like seeing her so vulnerable but she is getting excellent care. We are blessed to have access to such good care for her. I don't know what we would do if we lived anyplace else.

I'm so sorry that your mom had a heart attack  Since she is so perky, she likely will be fine.... what a blessing.... lots of prayers to your family!
I also must add.... I appreciated reading your comments about responsibility and family at the end of your post. I really needed to hear that today.....
My mom has pulmonary hypertension. This is a rather grave condition which usually leads to heart failure. My mom, bless her heart, is a horribly stubborn woman who doesn't want to admit she is sick. She right now is medicated and doing ok considering her diagnosis.
Since she is feeling well, she refuses to compromise and insists on doing things she used to do. She has a huge lawn and wants to mow it herself this summer.
I told her no, and I am hiring a landscaper for her (I'm paying for it). She called me up today and yelled at me and told me that hiring a landscaper is like 'killing her'.... lots of drama and a long call.... she hung up on me....
I know what I'm doing is the right thing.... she overexerts herself constantly, just becuase she doesn't want to admit she is fragile.
I just needed to hear that these difficult decisions are the correct thing to do.... thanks.....

Im home for the evening. Next visit will be done by my sister tonight. Mom is now stable and got her air mattress. That will provide a lot more comfort for her and ease for those caring for her. We still dont know when she is coming home, if she will be in a step down unit or if rehab is an option for her.
As I was leaving, she said "I am glad things are going well for you." regarding the pregnancy. So I looked at her and said "They would go a hell of a lot better if you would stop having heart attacks!" She said "Im sorry I didnt know I was having one." I thought it was cute on her part but made me sad. I am looking forward to choosing my layette with her on June 1 and so is she. I hope that she can use this as an incentive to make herself as well as she can.
I wish this wasn't happening.

she sounds like she's a fighter.... she'll be ok.... It is very scary though

What we are working on is making her realize that she does have the power to make things easier on herself. Will she get better? Probably not. But her life can be easier and more comfortable if she were compliant with a lifestyle that a cardiac patient should live.
