We switched at 6 months only because DS was getting so frustrated with the flow. He would work so hard and pass out asleep well before finishing the bottle...but wake in the middle of the night to eat again at least 2 times  That stopped when we changed the nipple.

i needed to ask this too. so you know to switch when they get friustrated with the slow flow of milk?

That was the indicator I used because my ped had said you never really need to switch...but this poor kid would actually pull the bottle out of his mouth and cry/scream before trying again. I figured that was as close as he was going to get to saying 'hey mom...this isn't working' so I changed the nipple and decided to give it a try...he was so happy he drained that bottle. Then I knew.

i switched DD bottles already shes almost 4 months...all depends on the bottles you have though...we have the drop-ins the nipples flow very slowly i have found anyway...my friend has Gerber plastic bottles...the slow flow come out faster then my fast flow ones so she has not switched and probably never will.

I tried at about 2-3 months. they were too fast, so I went back to the originals, and at 5 months, I still haven't switched.
