Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
Everything I have been reading says not too.
Gavin has been really gassy and when he tries to calm himself down he does the sucking thing, so sometimes I put him to my breast, but I think I may be making the gassy pain worse.

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
after three weeks i tried to give him a pacifier and he didnt really take it. i tried again at around 10 weeks and now he is better at it. if he is over 3 weeks, i would give it to him.

I think I did the 2nd night she was home from the hospital. She didn't have any nipple confusion.

try rubbing your DC's belly in a U or hold the baby downward on your arm... i will explain the positions i did if you want.. FM me.
truthfully the pacifier has been a HUGE help with teething also

Yes, both daughters had one on their first night at the hospital. No issues.

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
I tried to hold out on giving ds one but he started using me as a pacifier so tried a million different types of pacifiers until we found one he took too. Its is by gerber it is called natural flex. The nipple moves so it simulates the breast
natural flex

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
I held off for the first month because DD had some latching issues. She never took to it afterwards, though. She used to spit it out.

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
We waited about 10 days to introduce it and we have had no nipple confusion, but she does not love her paci. She only takes it sometimes, but often spits it out.

Nope! plus Julia never wanted it. Its hard to wean them off it when there older. If he doesn't want it I wouldn't force it.

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
I've never given my DS a paci.
The nurses at the hospital did.
For gas pains, I gave Mylicon, bicycled his legs or put him on his tummy then you'll hear him rip, lol.

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
I waited until 5 or 6 weeks because she started to use me as a pacifier and I didn't want that. She didn't take to it at first and kept spitting it out. The only one she took was Avent then once she took that one I switched to the Nuk ones and she was able to keep it her mouth.

Re: Ladies who BF, have you given your baby a pacifer?
Here's my take on the whole paci = nipple confusion. Milk comes out of a nipple, not a paci. What's to get confused about? I think the books take the scare tactics a little far. NO ONE I know has ever reported nipple confusion from pacifier use.
That said, I tried like CRAZY to get DD to take a paci- she never wanted it longer than a few sucks.
