What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
I think DD needs to go, but honestly I can't see it happening.
She doesn't allow me in her mouth, how is someone at a dentists office going to?

You should start taking them at age 3.

That is what I was told but things have changed. Now it is as soon as they get teeth.

We went late. 4 & 6 No cavities & they're doing fine except Maddie will definitely need braces (thumbsucker).
I was told at 2 year old. I think 3 is fine unless you see something going on (like bottle-rot)

I took Ryan at 15 months. His pediatrician recommended it because he has a v-shaped palette.

Re: What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
See Ali seems to have yellow build-up on the her bottom 4 teeth.
I am thinking the only way to get it off is to go to the dentist right?
I just don't see how she will sit in a chair at the dentist office
She is only 22 months

I have no intention of taking DD (she is 22 months), just yet. I am taking my nearly 4 year old next week.

I felt the same as you...how in the world will they get his mouth open! But they did momentarily...just enough for a quick scraping....he had calcium deposits...he was almost two years old

But that is what I am asking - how do you know what is the right time for a MY child, you know what I mean? What is the deciding factor?

Re: What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
DD fell and hit her tooth a few months ago - so we just went for an "emergency visit" however he said it's a good idea to start regular visits because she has some build up. She hass an appt next month. She will be 18 months.
ETA: She sat on my lap, not in a chair. I had to give her a bear hug. It was difficult and she cried, but I know it doesn't hurt. He also said it's easier when they cry. They open wide

Re: What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
I just went to the dentist myself on Monday and asked when I should start bringing DD. They told me that children have very little bacteria in their mouths, which results in very little if any plaque build up.
They recommended maybe brining her in between 2 1/2 and 3 with me to my visit just to see mommy sitting in the chair and get use to the environement, maybe give them a ride in the chair, etc. If they will let them look in their mouths that is great if not no big deal. She said usually around 4 years old they will start to do the cleaning. It is key to get them to like the atmospher and not to scare them.

Re: What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
Are you going to the ped soon? I would maybe ask them. Or just make an appointment with a dentist and see what happens

Re: What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
I agree you Ped should recognize a problem if there is one. The denist told me you would see if there was a problem with DC teeth at these young ages.

yes that's what it looked like...on his bottom four teeth he was about 22 months also...I was so freaked out I felt like a horrible mom that my child's teeth were rotting.
I really thought the experience would be worse...I am so glad I went. I layed him down on my lap upside down sort of and she opened his mouth and scraped quickly.
She told me it's in his saliva and unfortunataly hewill have this problem all his life. I went again six months later and it had build up again...so it seems like it will be a 6 month thing. The second visit was this past summer and she even did a quick cleaning. Of course he cried but as soon as it was over he was fine. She worked very fast!

Re: What is the earliest age for the Dentist?
I took my children to a pediatric dentist let me tell you these people are amazing when it comes to toddlers. You will be so pleased I know I was, fantastic experience, better than the doctor's office.
