IF treatments and health care coverage?
Hey Ladies,
I just received my first bill for preliminary exams at LI-IVF. This bill was specifically for the progesterone test, and it came out to $640.00 from Quest. I have Empire (teacher) and I was told that my health insurance is one of the best and would cover everything. This to me is not covering everything. I have to go for the HSG procedure next week, and I'm nervous as to how much that will cost if my health insurance is not comprehensive.
I know I really just have to call Empire on monday, but I was wondering if anyone would give me insight before then.
Thank you!
(PS - I realize the road to the BFP can be costly, and I'm willing to endure, but I just thought I had really good insurance that would cover the expenses...)

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
I had something like this happen to me with Quest. With my situation, they were not given my insurance number or info, so after I gave it to them, it went through. I am sure it is an oversight.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be using Quest anymore with Empire and that may be why you got a bill. We have Empire/United Healthcare (NYS Courts) and use Enzo Labs for all testing.

I agree. I had to start using Sunrise Medical Laboratories for my labwork.

Right I just changed insurance to Empire (Boces) on Thursday so that I could start the process and I was told specifically to not use quest. I was given the list of where I could go. Let me know if you need to know what labs are covered.

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
I have Empire United Healthcare and went to LI IVF. All my labwork went to Enzo and was covered. I would just get a bill from Enzo for the co-pay. They should have known not to send yours to Quest anymore. I would contact LI IVF! My HSG was covered too and all I had was a co-pay. I went to Nassau Radiological.

IF they sent your bw to a lab your insurance doesn't cover. then thats the office's fault. I would try calling your ins. company too - I had a problem with a lab a few months ago - turned out the doctor's office had billed it wrong. THe insurance co. took care of it for me.

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
Thanks for all of your help. One bill came back for 110.00 sent through Enzo, and the other for 640.00 was sent through Quest. I'm not sure why both of the bills didn't go through the same place.
I'm nervous to get the HSG and blood panel done with this confusion.
I hope when I call on Monday, they could just resubmit my info through Sunrise Med. Labs to get this taken care of.
Is this a fairly easy situation to reconcile? My blood work is on Tuesday and HSG procedure on Friday. AH!

omg, no. I didn't know that I was supposed to do that... Is that always the case for IF services with Empire? How far in advance do I need to call?
Ugh, I can't believe I messed this up.

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
don't get yourself all stressed out calm down
things are going to work out OK
if you go to a center of excellence like the one in PJ i think its LI IVF it is covered 100% with no copays I decided to go out of network b/c I liked the Dr better then the other and paid copays for 2 rounds and my INS paid 80% which was good for me we took 5 tries to get PG and with only 80% taken out of my lifetime max we ended up being able to do more tries and then after the first 2 rounds they told me about a financial hardship program where they just except the 80% now i no longer pay copays or the 20% so it ended up working out for me

that's strange- I have empire insurance and there are signs up in their office that they are the primary lab for empire blue cross blue shield--- that's why I've been using them (and that's who my office sends me to b/c they're across the street from the drs)

this is Empire United Healthcare, so it's different than Empire BCBS. I don't know their policy and it could be very different. Educators have United Healthcare. It could never hurt to double check with your insurance to make sure things are being sent to the right place.

Yes and in reality if you are going to an RE-their staff should be calling to see what lab is acceptable to your insurance. I'm sure you could fight it with your insurance or even the Dr

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
You should be using LabCorp, or a lab with your ins coverage. I work for a dr. and that is the lab we use w/ the ins you have. I would call the supervisor at quest and tell them what happened and maybe they will accept whatever your ins pays. HTH

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
I have my first consult with LI-IVF this wednesday and just spoke with one of the girls there. She said she called Empire, and I'm covered for $50K.
If/when procedures are necessary, I'd have to get a referral.
Good luck!!!!

Re: IF treatments and health care coverage?
I have Empire and they used Enzo or Sunrise and its covered. They don't participate with Quest anymore.
And I don't think you have to call for authorization until you're going to do IVF. That was my experience, anyway.
