Parking at Hicksville train???

We are considering moving to Bethpage (once our place sells). We love the community there but I don't love the train schedule! Hicksvilles schedule is awesome and I can avoid Penn and go to Hunter's Point (I work on East side). Since they are both in town of Oyster Bay I can get a sticker BUT can I get a spot? Does anyone do this commuter? TIA

Re: Parking at Hicksville train???

Hi there. I've been commuting to NYC for about 10 years. Every train station experience is pretty much the same. To get a parking spot, you have to get to the train early!...probably around 6:30am to 6:45am the latest. This can be different in some areas. I would suggest driving to Hicksville in the mornings and check it out.

I have friends that commute from there and they say you have to be there early, like 6:30am early to get a spot.

Like the other Poster said, I am sure most train stations are like that, but Hicksville is def one of the busier ones.

Re: Parking at Hicksville train???

It's amazing how early people are going to work. Being at the train station at 6:30 is insane!

The train from Hicksville to Penn is less than 50 minutes. Are people really getting to work at 7:30am? Chat Icon

If that's the case, what hours are you working? I sure hope you are leaving early.

6:30?????? I was planning on taking the 8:00 train!!! Why are people at the LIRR so early? I take the bayside line now (no parking though, I walk) and the trains after 8 are packed..early trains are empty.

So do you think no matter where I move if I take a 7:30-8am train I will be out of luck? Is there just not enough spots? AHHHHH Now I am freaking!! I cant deal with not being able to park everyday!

According to my experience.....i'm afraid 7:30 to 8am is too late to find a spot. maybe there is some side street parking that i'm not aware of.
I suggest scoping it out in the morning.

I used to work in the city before being a SAHM. I took the train from Syosset. It was pretty much at capacity before 7:30. I would imagine most stations are.

We're in the same situation since we now walk to the train and we go in much later than most and as a result have cut our house search in half by trying to keep proximity to the train in mind. You may want to consider taking the other train line and looking for a home in walking distance. It stinks but it seems most towns just don't offer ample parking for commuters.

Re: Parking at Hicksville train???

I live in Bethpage and commute from the rail there. If I get there by 7:15 I can get a legal spot. When I do that, I take the 7:31 but it's packed.

I usually take the 7:01 or 7:10 and there is plenty of parking around 7am.

The next latest train is the 7:58 and then you will not find a spot.

My hours are long so I'm in around 8-8-15 and home around 7-8.

Hicksville is the same though, but they have a lot a little farther away where you can pay. I think it's $8 a day for parking. It's a racket.

Re: Parking at Hicksville train???

I used to take the train from Syosset but luckily, I walked. I do remember though, people would get there early to get a spot and then sit and wait in their cars until their train came.

I live in Massapequa Park now and I work on LI. I did take the train into NYC last month and there was plenty of parking. We took a 9am train and had to walk a little but we had no problem finding a spot.

Re: Parking at Hicksville train???

You don't have to take the 6:30am train but you will have to if you want to park in the parking lot right by the station. It's almost impossible to park in that parking lot.

There are plenty of spots by 6:45am but those are the lots that you have to walk to. Like 5 minutes. By the church on Jerusalem, etc...

DH works on the East side too and takes that train with the same station you mentioned. There is a 6:56am train that goes there in the morning. Otherwise he takes the 7:08am but he starts at 8am though.

I will ask DH tonight. Anything BY the train track is taken very early. This is a very busy station.

I live in Bethpage and take the train from Syosset (a 7 minute drive for me). There is a 7:34am ( I think) from there that goes to Hunters Point.

I usually get there at 7:15 and there is a lot of parking left. You can usually get as spot if you get there by 7:25-7:30.
