Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
me AGAIN!
What areas should we avoid so we don't live with an airzone over our heads?

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
In Holbrook, I would stay away from anything off of Lincoln Ave.
I don't think there are too many areas in Ronkonkoma - maybe just near the train station.
The planes start to fly really low in those areas.

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
My grandmother lives between Portion Road and the Expressway (North & South) and Patchogue Holbrook Road & Nichols Road (East & West) and the planes lately have been REALLY low, shaking her house. I know that's a broad area, but I was trying to point out major roads in the area! If you want to look it up she lives on Warren Avenue in Ronkonkoma (may show up as Lake Ronkonkoma)

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
I grew up right down the street from MacArthur... literally (and when I say down the street, we're talking Johnson Ave. in Bohemia, North of Sunrise, South of Vets). I never heard a single peep... people a few blocks closer to the airport were provided with double paned windows and CAC from either the town or the airport for the inconvenience of the noise... but like I said, never had a problem myself.

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
DH's parents live literally .25 mile from the ronkonkoma train station and close to the airport as well. I think they are off Lincoln but I can't remember the exact name of the street.
Anyway, I NEVER hear the train or planes. Maybe I just don't pay attention to that stuff, but their street is very nice, and I wouldn't let those two things deter me from looking at a house in the area.

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
I live just north of Union and West of Patch/Hol Rd, on Norma. We see them and hear them and I love it. Although I am not directly in the flight path, when planes are using a specific runway we can practically look into the windows of the plane. It is soo cool and I loved watching them from my backyard last summer.
McArthur runs from 6am to 11pm I believe so it is not all night long. Plus, after a while you don't even hear them anymore - it becomes white noise.

Your Grandma lives right around the corner from me.
They don't bother us except for the summer when we're trying to watch TV at night, all the windows are open & they have one coming in right after another.... At that point DH & I look at each other & say Thank God for DVR!
Seriously though, it doesn't bother us at all. Like MrsSteflily we actually enjoy it.

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
I live in Holbrook, north of the LIE. Like others have mentioned, it's not that bad and you get used to it. Except in the summer when the windows are open and you have to pause a phone conversation to wait for the plane to pass.

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
I grew up in Ronkonkoma off patchogue holbrook road between the LIE and Portion road. My parents still live there. When you are in your house, you never notice anything. If we were sitting on the deck during the summer, we will hear them but not enough to bother us. I would have bought over there if DH and I didn't work on the West end of nassau! I honestly hear the helicopters more at my house in Levittown going to NUMC!

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
I agree with the others. I grew up in Holbrook and still live there. You get used to the noise and usually don't hear it unless it is bad weather when they fly lower.
I will say that I have heard large planes flying at 3am every few months.

Re: Holbrook and Ronkonkoma AIRPORT?!
We live off Union between Patch-Holbrook and Hawkins and honestly the planes don't bother us. We moved in last Summer and we just got used to it. I think DS is a great sleeper because of it
And unless there has been bad weather all day, you really don't hear many planes after 8pm or before 8am.
It was funny when we were flying back from Florida and saw our house from the plane
