Just curious - fashionable moms...

Just curious - for the moms that shop and can look fabulous - how do you do it?

How do you afford to keep current on fashions now that you are a mom and have so many other expenses?

I know that there is no way I can always shop every season(or more than once a year) so I will try and buy little things that I know will never go out of style, and rarely buy anything trendy when I have to shop because I know I will be stuck with that item for years and don't want to look SO 2008 Chat Icon

How do you do it?

Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

I shop at the cheaper stores, and I will buy a few pairs of jeans, and skirts, and then every time I go shopping, I will budget for one or two new tops, and maybe shoes and accessories here and there.

I definitely have to buy a little at a time, especially with the two little ones growing out of sizes so quickly.

oh goodness, i stopped shopping there when my 16 year old cousin started buying clothes thereChat Icon

My SIL puts $500 into their budget every season for new clothes, my bro hardly gets anything new, he sacrificed his style for his wife. God bless em.

I'm not talking like, you know - those REEEAAALLYYY trendy things - like stuff that are going out of style as you look at them Chat Icon

I mean - stylish, more than trendy - I should have said that - you know - classy, but current Chat Icon

For the most part, I dress pretty simply but stylish - mostly because I buy to last forever - for work, crisp white tops, black pants, things like that, and then I have a lot of pre-baby splurges (7's jeans, True Religion, etc) that will also last forever once my a s s fits into them, but I see so many moms looking so great - so I am looking to see if they are doing what I do - buying a little at a time, buying at chaper places, or pulling down 3 jobs for their shoe addiction Chat Icon

Ann Taylor Loft has really nice classic pieces that LAST. They always send me coupons, that's when I go. I love their petite jeans too.
NY & Co has good coupons too, though their stuff doesn't seem to last as long, their stuff is comfy & classic, and you can get some trendy pieces too.
Forever 21 for a trendy dress or top.
Have you tried that new place Fox's yet in Hunt. Village? Good finds!

I've actually been really disappointed w/ all the stores selections lately, I'm SO sick of everything looking like it's maternity! I want A-line & tailored tops/ dresses back already!!!!!!

We are at a much better place now then we were when we were living in the city and making much less money....we have enough for our bills and enough to save and spend. It might not always be like this, but for now we are doing well.

Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

Money is one issue then there is the issue of how do I even know what is in style anymore? I buy what I like and, honestly, sometimes I look like 1985 and sometimes I am way ahead of a trend that comes out a few months later. Oh well. Now that my body has , well, fallen, I find that I cannot get away with lower quality so I actually don't shop at some of the less expensive cutesy places anymore. As a result, I have less items in my wardrobe.

I used to work at Fox's back in college. I worked in the Mineola location but sometimes went to the one out in Huntington...I think on New York Ave?
