he pays the rent, car ins, garage...though I sometimes give him the checks, it that counts

I do. Partly bc dh works so much, but also I admit it I am a control freak I need to know what is going on, esp now that I am a SAHM i dont want to be totally clueless with the $.

Both of us pay the bills. I pay rent, car loan, cell phones, and my personal credit card. He pays everything else.

I've set up all my "personal" bills (the ones I had before we got married like student loans, cell, etc) to pay automatically online from our joint account.
DH pays the "paper" bills - things we get monthly in the mail like the rent, cable, telephone, gas, etc.
I'm actually surprised because I always felt the need to be on top of these things - now I'm all for DH taking care of it!
