Jury Duty
I am supposed to phone in tonight. Meanwhile I sent a letter a week and a half ago asking to be excused - I have an infant at home, no other caretaker for her, own my own buisiness and am the sole employee.
I haven't heard anything back.
I suppose this means I have to call in?
I have no problem with doing my civic duty, just wait til my kid is in preschool at least!!

Re: Jury Duty
I don't think you can be excused by mail or phone. I'm pretty sure you just have to go, and then tell them your situation when you get there.

Re: Jury Duty
You probably should have called instead of writing a letter cause you wouldve known by now.
Now you'll have to call to see and if you get picked you have to go.
I hope it works in your favor

Yup. You have to show up and tell them in person at this point.
However... isn't tomorrow a federal holiday? Why would you have jury duty tomorrow?

I wish I could pull that off!

Re: Jury Duty
If you mailed in your letter of excuse, you will not hear back from them....
I did that when I got called after I had my first child. I did not call in.
Two months later, I get summoned for Jury duty as a "Delinquent Juror" (meaning I never showed up from that first summons I got - when I sent my letter in).
I called and explained that to the woman, and she pulled my record and said there was no record of receiving my letter with my letter of excuse with my baby's birth certificate enclosed. Well, I told her I had the certified mail, return receipt that it was received on such and such a date at this time. She told me to mail copies of it back in and to call her back in a few days to see if it was entered in their system. When I called back, it was and I got a 2 year reprieve from being called.
Moral of Story: Don't Assume you are excused. Call. Check to see if they got your letter. Document everything you mail and send certified mail return receipt requested.

Re: Jury Duty
I should have been excused from jury duty because I had just served Federal less than two years earlier and Suffolk called me. I answered the questionnaire that I just served, but they called me anyway. I was on telephone duty and was called in - I thought I could just go in, explain, be credited another four years (or six or whatever it is) and leave. They told me no - I would be called again as soon as my time was up and showing up meant nothing . She said since I was already there, I might as well stay and get my credit.
BUT - there was a woman who showed up there with a baby in an infant carrier. I think she was excused.

Re: Jury Duty
I have to call in tomorrow. I would have called to check about the letter but I forgot all about it to be honest.
Well, if I get called in for Tuesday I will bring DD and see what happens.
I was pardoned right after she was born - and now 6 months later they come for me again - umm yeah she isn't quite ready to be in her own after 6 months....
And the summons says that you cannot be postponed more than once. That's why I sent the letter.
