IVF- question about recovery
Hi !....I'm scheduled for an approx. date of Sunday for my retrieval.....Did your DH take off the day after retieval and or the day after the transfer ???...He;s just wanting to plant the seed in the bosses head of how many days he will be needing to take off next week....He was thinking of taking 1 day after the retrieval and 2 after the transfer...(We also have my DS at home whos a toddler- so thougt I might need to take it a little easy- wasnt sure if it was necessary)...Any opinions on this would be great !!!

Re: IVF- question about recovery
My husband just took for the day of each but my dad did stay here one extra day after retrieval (he was our babysitter) and it did help. I was feeling crummy all day and it was nice to know I could lay in bed responsibility free.

Re: IVF- question about recovery
My husband only took the day of the retrieval off. I was fine the next day. Not a 100% but fine to be by myself. But, having a toddler is a different story. Are you doing a 3dt or 5dt? Is your dh going to take consecutive days off? As for the transfer, my husband didnt take the day off. On my first IVF, I stayed off my feet for a few days. On the second FET, I went to work the next day.
It all depends if you plan on doing bedrest. Good Luck!

Not sure yet if it will be a 3 day or 5 day transfer...they said we may not until the morning of ...It looks like we might be getting lucky w/ the retrieval being on a weekend so it'll be like a freebie....I guess we'll plan on 1 day off after each to be on the safe side and if I need more, he'll have to extend it...Most likely it wont be consecutive days ( we'd like to save some of his vacation time to actually take a vacation! LOL) Thanks for the responses !

Re: IVF- question about recovery
I want to preface this with what happened to me was very rare and usually doesn't happen to people...
My DH took the day of the retrieval and the day of the transfer off. After the retrieval I was in no condition to be taking care of a toddler. by the evening of my transfer I was in the ER. I was throwing up and having major trouble breathing to the point I couldn't even lie down, my stomach was so big it looked like i was 5 months pregnant. Each day I got progressively better. By the 3rd night I was able to lie down instead of sleeping upright. and now I feel back to normal. My RE met me at the ER and they ran tests and said that I had internal bleeding from my ovaries, which is extremely rare.
This will most likely not happen to you, but I didn't think it was going to happen to me either. I expected to be able to go back to work and even asked the DR. if I could go for a run the 2 days before the transfer.
Don't worry and good luck!

Thank You for sharing that..I'm so sorry that that happened to you...I guess its just like every other step of the IF process- expect the unexpected just in case...

Re: IVF- question about recovery
I forgot to add this at the end...Even though you will probably bo ok, you might want to have an alternative plan for a toddler.
Also I am fine and would do it all over again if it meant I would get a BFP! good luck to you, keep us posted.

Re: IVF- question about recovery
My Dh didnt and i have to say I was uncomfortable afterwards...Unfortunatly DHs grandma died the day of my retrieval and he ended up being home, and we had a funeral/wake to do and I was very uncomfortable.
After transfer, I was fine, just stuck it out in bed, had food in there with me and was fine.

Re: IVF- question about recovery
DH took the day of retrieval and after off. I was very uncomfortable after retrieval. I took 2 days off after transfer and stood home by myself. DH went to work.

Re: IVF- question about recovery
My DH only took the day of retrieval off and on some of my transfers, he didn't take off at all. If there is any chance of you Hyperstimming, I would definitely make sure someone is with you for a few days after. I ended up in the hospital the day after my first transfer and had to stay for four days. They ended up draining my stomach of fluid at the hospital. I certainly was in no condition at the time to be alone...thankfully, my DH was around when I needed to be taken to the ER.
This is not common, but you should ask your RE if there is any risk of you hyperstimming and if so, have a plan.

Re: IVF- question about recovery
DH only took off the day of retrieval. The next day we were both back at work.
He did take off the day of transfer and the next day. But only really for childcare issues. I felt fine, but I was suppose to stay in bed and not allowed to lift DS, there was no way that could have happened if I was alone.

Re: IVF- question about recovery
DH took off both days, retrieval and transfer, although transfer wasn't necessary. I was VERY uncomfortable for 2 days after retrieval (day after retrieval for one cycle I had to go to a wedding ) and I definitely wouldn't have been able to care for a toddler. Day of and after transfer is different, IMO. I think you should have him take off the day of transfer so you can rest and let those embies sink in there, but the next day I think you'd be fine with your toddler.
Lots of luck!

Re: IVF- question about recovery
I asked my RE how many days was typical for me to take off work and he said just the day of the retrival and the day of the transfer...said I can go back to work the next day and that "bed rest" is all superstitious BS

That's a weird issue with the RE's...some suggest one or two days of bedrest, some not at all. My RE always said no bedrest at all....the time I did get PG, it was with a full day of activity after the transfer.
