I think they just don't want people to exploit their relationship. They keep it private, nothing wrong with that.

and besides, maybe a split second after that photo was snapped, he put his arms around her? who knows. i just hate how (to a certain extent) the pap and media have some control over what image gets portrayed(thru pics) 
i think they look like a normal loving and affectionate family

I've seen other pics of him looking affectionate with her, and I've seen him talk about her a couple times (in a my-wife-is-the-best way) in interviews. I think they're just more low-key, which seems to be something he wanted after being with J-Lo and having her grab his 'lil Afflecks in public.

I think they are just trying to be regular people, normal if you will. They seem like a happy family, however I still feel like they don't have a good sexual chemistry. Not feeling an heat between them.
