Help, my son won't take his medicine.. Update #3: 2/8 in first post...
He's on Augmentin for his strep throat and ear infection. I picked it up not even thinking to ask if it was pink and bubble gum flavor like I had as a kid. Well, its not. It's white and chalky and he will not drink it at all.... He's 3.5 and he was totally on to me when I put it in a Danimals drinkable yogurt tonight (which he loves). Now that's wasted because he won't drink that either because he says it tastes like medicine. What's my next step? He needs it 2x a day for 10 days. It's only day 1
Update #2: Thank God for 24 hour CVS in Syosset, where I get my Rx's filled.
Yes, I took it back and they put Cherry flavor to it. I thought I was good to go. I get home, Andrew is still up because his ear hurts him and tell him I went back and got Cherry instead.
Here's the problem. It smells like Cherry. Tastes like Cherry. Is still chalky white in color. He won't take it. He took a sip when I promised him it tasted like Cherries and he promptly spit it all back out all over him and me.
Reminder to myself: Flavor it before ever giving it to my kids. Call pedi in the morning to see what, if any, alternatives there are.
I will try and put it in his milk tomorrow. I'll make it strawberry milk to see if I can disguise it. Wish me luck.
Update #3 I tried putting it in strawberry milk this morning. His favorite. He took a sip, handed it to me and told me he doesn't like it. It tastes like medicine. Wow, I can't get anything past him
I'm going to try and see if giving him chocolate syrup first will help. If not, I have to call the pedi to see what else I can do because I can't get any of it into him and he's got strep and an ear infection he keeps crying over

they should definitely be able to add something to it. they added some sort of bubble gum flavor to Rachel's amoxocillyn (sp).

I just called and am going back to CVS for them to flavor it. And I'm missing Lipstick Jungle. But my baby comes first. Thanks!

That's good to know that they can flavor it after you get it.
I'll have to keep that in mind.
  Hope he's better soon!

Warm compresses, rubbing the ear behind & below the lobe and motrin was the advice that I got when I called the doctor on call at 4 am.
It got Joseph back to sleep & it gave me a reprieve to get him to the doctor during walk in hours.

Good luck with it!
I am actually surprised that CVS let you come back in with it, I'd think it would be a liability for them since they don't know what you (well not you, but you know what I mean!) could do to the medicine at home, then bring it in for the flavor, and then blame them if something happened, KWIM? I would never have thought to call them back.

My pediatrician told me to give my kids a spoonful of chocolate syrup first and then the medicine. It coats the tongue so they don't taste it as much.
I give them a little chocolate syrup after too to make sure the taste is gone (and as a little reward).
It really works!!! My kids don't give me a hard time anymore.

Re: Help, my son won't take his medicine.. Update #2 down in thread...
poor Andrew!
Emily is like this with just about ALL medicine, except for augmentin, go figure. I hide this in her soymilk and she's good to go. But with anything else, NOTHING works, it's terrible. I've tried hiding it in things, flavoring it, etc. Worst case I've just held her down and tried to get it into her mouth, but that is messy and upsetting
I hope you are able to find a way to get it into him. HUGS!

Hopefully he will take it. I hate to suggest this but, can you put it into a baby syringe and force him to take it by squeezing it against the inside of his cheek and then give him a treat. I know it's harder when they are older and understand. But, he needs to take his medicine to get better.
  Hugs to you and DS
ets: I guess that wouldn't work if he spits it up.

Re: Help, my son won't take his medicine.. Update #3: 2/8 in first post...
I could have written this myself! Same situation here. I tried to put in in everything yestreday. I am going to run out of the antibiotic before my DD even gets her full dose. I even tried in mac and cheese yesterday. She says, I don't want my medicine in there. I snuck it in her yogurt the other day and last night. Thank God. I am going crazy with this. I feel awful, my DH literally holds her down and I try to get it in her mouth and she spits it all over. She is very close to having to get her tonsils and adnoids out. If she ends up having to I will feel beyond guilty that its all my fault because I couldn't get my 2 almost 3 year old to take her meds! I hope you son feels better!

when I give DD medicine- I pinch her nose- maybe that will help- sometimes if you can't smell it, it doesn't taste as bad.

I do this as well. But, how about bribery plain and simple. Can you pick up a toy he wants and kind of dangle it as a present for taking his medicine for the next 10 days. It sounds like he might be old enough to respond to this type of tactic.
  Good luck!!
