X-Post - What would you do?
DH is overseas with MIL who has just chosen to go off dialysis. She has possibly 3-6 more days.
I just started a new job last September and have already taken a personal day to be with her. It is KILLING me that I am not there with DH.
I just sent my principal an email asking him to take 6 days unpaid. This would include the bereavement. Am I crazy? He is very nice, but I don't want it to look like I take a lot of days.
what would you do?

I think he would understand, and given that you took a day he probably is aware of the severity of the situation.

Re: X-Post - What would you do?
It's hard I know. I started a teaching job in Sept. of 04 and the beginning of November of the same year my MIL passed away. I didn't know what I was going to do, but when I called up the Asst. Prinicpal said, "Your going to take the week off, right?" He new I was hesitant and he told me "I know you are concerned because you just started, but you do what you have to do."
I thanked him for understanding and he said anyone with a heart would.

Hey sweetie!!! got your FM -- sending you hugs!
I would look in your contract and see what the deal is for personal days... I know in my district we can take 2 days off for funerals paid and then personal days are different altogether... we have unlimited personal days provided they are pre-approved.
If personal days dont' work, perhaps you can take out of your sick bank?
I would think that in this situation he might be more understanding then you would think considering it's overseas.
GOOD LUCK! I would take the time regardless... sick bank or unpaid, but ideally they can work with you and take it out of personal time if possible.

Re: X-Post - What would you do?
you did the right thing in asking for the days.
No one in their right mind would question you for it, even if it was your first DAY!
My prayers to your dh and his family, and that you are able to take the time you need to be with them.

Go, a life ful odf what if's and regret for not going are not worth it for a job that doesn't understand why you would want the days. Spending time with family is the best thing we can do. Plus I bet your presence would mean the world to your hubby.
