DH freaking about a flat head....
DH is constantly worried that Gavin's head will be flat, and it is to a certain extent because he sleeps on his back.
A friend of mine says her nanny (from Trinidad) does this massage after the babies baths and their heads are perfectly shaped.
Has anyone done this? She even brought the nanny to the doctor with her to show him what she does and he approved it.....
I'm gonna go there next week for a demo....

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
I have taken my son to a Cranial Osteopath who did a massage on my baby's flat head, its supposed to help. Quite a few of my friends take their newborns to see the CO's as its supposed to work really well for all different kinds of problems. My son is 2 and has a sloping head...the poor thing. My dad has the same shaped head.

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
When Jack was one month old I got int trouble by my ped bc Jack clearly was starting to have a flat head.
From month one - to his second month I was obsessed with him laying on his stomach - I even would change the way I fed him. I rotated him all the time in the bassinet. I tortured myself -- BUT -- in the end it worked. By the second month it was basically fine.
Oh - and get the Noggin Nest - because honestly - about halfway through the month I was so tired of doing all this that I basically gave up and said "whatever it is it is" -- but I had the Noggin Nest -and I believe that was a BIG HELP!

I am from Jamaica and my mom and mil massage Ella's head from she was born. Most people from Islands always practice doing it to newborns.

I was obsessing as well, thus I would constantly carry him and I got the Noggin Nest by Boppy from Bottery Barn Kids.
ETA: Its a pillow with a little cut out for the head...this is it.

I did all the EXACT same things and now everyone comments on what a perfect shaped head he has! The Noggin Nest is the BEST!!!

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
Matthew had the flat head and if it didnt coreect itself, we were going to have to get a helmet. Having him sleep in the swing didnt help...he was a belly sleeper so that helped a lot. We propped him up as much as possible and when he got older and sat up on his own, it did correct itself

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
Thanks!
I have to go to BRU and BBB anyway, so I'll pick it up.
Especially having a boy, you want their heads to be shaped nicely, just in case they go bald or shave their heads!!!

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
Wow, it's funny that you brought this up 'cause I was concerned about the shape of Maddie's head. It was looking a little flat in the back and my mom told me that my great-grandmother used to rub the back of the babies' heads. I started this, and I swear I was just telling DH last night that her head looks rounder to me.

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
My DS is 3 months old and I have noticed one side of his head is getting flat. I am thinking about getting the Noggin Nest - is it true that it can't be used while he's sleeping?
I also read some reviews that said the baby's head sometimes gets the shape of the Noggin Nest - anyone else have this experience?
TIA!!

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
I've been using it in his crib and carseat and bouncer.....don't see why you can't use it in the crib, but maybe not after they start rolling.....

I really wouldn't use anything while he's sleeping, but throughout the day for sure.

Re: DH freaking about a flat head....
Steven had a flat head which he was born with. We ran around to several doctors thinking he would need the helmet. Thankfully, he didn't and it has pretty much corrected itself, though it's still a little flat on one side but nobody would notice.
My next baby will be sleeping on their belly if that's what they prefer.
