I had 2 on top of cervix which was removed when I gave birth to DD. I had a C-Section and they removed it same time.

I have a fibroid on my uterus but they did not remove since it is not causing me any problems.

Since I had a C-Section and they removed the fibroid the surgery went well but the recovery period was a killer. The more I walked around the better I felt. You can FM me if you should have anymore questions.

Re: uterine fibroids

I had a pretty big one and the surgery was fine-no issues before or after.

sorry to jump in on this thread - but I was just diagnosed with this too - can you tell us about the surgery - length of time, time out from work, pain?

Thanks!

Re: uterine fibroids

I had a abdominal myomectomy in September of 2005. I had a VERY large fibroid growing outside of my uterus.

Unfortunately, I went to too many doctors who kept telling me to leave it alone (I had no symptoms such as heavy periods), so it could not be removed laproscopically.

I was SO scared of the surgery -- I can't even tell you. They had to put me on sedatives and beta blockers a week before to calm my a s s down -- I was an absolute wreck!

I'm not going to lie -- when you first wake up from the surgery you're like "Um, did anyone get the number of the bus that just hit me?!" But it gets better everyday. They give you the good pain meds! I had the surgery on a Tuesday morning and came home on Thursday. But Sunday I was feeling a lot closer to "normal".

I was out from work for a few weeks. Week one was the surgery. Week two I recovered. Week three I kinda took for myself to recover mentally. I could've went back to work then, but didn't. I was freelancing, so it was money lost for me, but I needed the time to myself.

And just an FYI (in case this is a concern), I was able to conceive without any problem. I had to have a C-section (for reasons unrelated to the fibroid surgery), but compared to the fibroid surgery, it was a walk in the park! I recovered soooo quickly. I was like "C-section -- ha! This is nothing!"

I wish you luck Chat Icon

Sure-it was out patient surgery, so I went in in the morning . They put me under, and I came to a couple hours later and DH drove me home. They gave me a prescription for pain killers which I needed the day of and the day after the surgery but didn't need by the third day. I had the surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday. My survey was intra-vaginal (I think that is what it is called) which scared the cr@p out of me at first, but the recovery for this is much easier as they didn't have to cut muscle, etc. If you have the other type of surgery (where they cut through your uterus), the recovery is longer.

In either case, they do make you aware that there is a small chance that the surgery could lead to an emergency hysterectomy. I say this not to scare you but to warn you so that you are not as scared when they tell you.

This is the type of procedure they would do on me. The risk, even though sllight is what scares the hell out of me, as the reason I am doing it is it could be causing my miscarriages.
