Did you check if your insurance covers epiderial?

My childbirth class teacher told us to check what percentage our insurance covers.

No, didn't think to check.

And I plan on going natural so I hope I don't use it!

Same here!

I already told my DH we are not investigating ahead of time because I am getting it no matter what, so we might as well not stress over the cost.

I called out of curiosity and mine said if they administer it, it's covered. I'm a little afraid of it, but it's nice to know, if I want it, it's free.

FYI - I have the Oxford Freedom Plan

Re: Did you check if your insurance covers epiderial?

My insurance company wasn't billed for the epideral since this would be a separate bill set forth by the enethesiologist and I didn't get one. My friend paid a couple of thousand buck - out of pocket - if I remember correctly.

This is a very good point to bring up because this happened to my friend. Although her hospital was covered the anethesiologist was not - he didn't take her insurance.

Re: Did you check if your insurance covers epiderial?

The epidural is performed by an anesthesiologist (spelling ?) which is billed through your insurance - separate from the delivery/surgery.
Your Dr. & Hospital usually use in network anesthesiologists that are covered by your insurance. If your concerned you can call the hospital and check who they use and confirm they are covered.
