Oh no she dit-n't!!!!!

We went to have dinner at my MIL and she mentioned (again) that she wants to give me my DH's old clothes for the baby. He is 32 - I wouldn't put them on a baby.

I should have addressed it right then, but I didn't want to be rude.

ETA - I made it a little nicer. I guess she was just being nice. sorry guys!!! I'm emotional!!!

My mom saved some of our stuff too Chat Icon
And she gave me a few maternity shirts of hers from when she was pregnant with me. One is a t-shirt that says Under Construction. It is cute but sooo old.

Re: Oh no she dit-n't!!!!!

umm wow, well ok.

If I still had anything left of either my own or my husband's childhood, I'd like it passed down as we are having my MIL first grandchild and my father's second

My hubby came to America when he was 3 so there's nothing to pass down.

My mother sold/destroyed every scrap of my own childhood after the divorce (including photos) so nothing there.

I understand what you're saying tho. Still I'd just take the stuff and when your child isn't wearing it say it didn't fit, it tore, or you just got this outfit from someone else, etc. Or put on an outfit right before your baby eats, then let your baby sick up or poop on it and 'have to' change it. heh Chat Icon

If its 1 outfit or something I think that's sweet. I'd put DC in it, take a picture & let that be the end of it.

If its a whole bunch of DH's stuff, I'd do what Veronica says above.

my mom saved the dress she took me home in the hospital in and I tihnk my first birthday dress... she is very excited to pass them on if I have a girl... they are stillin good condition, so i think it is kinda cute... but i dont think i would be so into a full wardrobe from 32 years ago...

Re: Oh no she dit-n't!!!!!

My MIL saved every piece of DH's clothing as well. Yes, EVERYTHING! There are boxes and boxes of them in her attic. She thinks we will be able to use them to clothe the baby completely.Chat Icon DH is 33 years old.

I told her I would take a couple cute things and the outfit DH came home in (but she can't remember what that is).

Needless to say, 4 washes later and they still stink like they were sitting in an attic for 33 years. Now she is washing them thinking she can get the smell outChat Icon

She says she will send us a box at a time as the baby gets older. I politely said no thanks but she is not getting it.

IL's also have every toy he ever played with as well in their attic. Wish me luck.........Chat Icon

Re: Oh no she dit-n't!!!!!

my MIL wants to do the same with some of DH's clothing or my SIL's stuff since we don't know what we are having. I tried telling her we don't need 27 year old hand me downs! Chat Icon
