Registry Question?

I have a question about registering... for those of you who already registered, did any of you start your registry online before you went to the store?

Do you think it is better to go to the store first?

I remember when we registered for the wedding, I tried to set one up online at Macys.com and it turned out to be such hassel, that we had to delete it and start all over...

I was thinking of maybe starting one online and slowly going through my baby bargains book- then, when we get further along to actually go to the store to get the registry gun and go to town!

What do you ladies think???

Re: Registry Question?

Funny, I had the same problem with Macy's for the wedding.

I too read through the Baby Bargains book. I brought my BFF who has 2 kids and definitely had different ideas then what the book recommends, I tend to agree with the book. We went to BBB, I took the gun and started to register. I printed out all the items I registered for and deleted things I really didn't like much from the computer. I plan on taking my printed list and going to BRU tomorrow to compare prices. I hear BRU is a little less expensive, if I delete that much I may end up with only BRU, unless there's really something at BBB that isn't at BRU, but so far it seems to be the other way around.

I'd say use the book as a guide, ask friends what their experiences are and then think about what you need.

Re: Registry Question?

What I did was go to the store first, get totally overwhelmed, then bought baby bargains and went back to the store after reading to do a majority of the registering....then i came home and edited it on the computer

Re: Registry Question?

I started it on the internet. I was able to read the reviews on different items. Then I went to the store and added a few things and changed a few. I think it helped save some time

Re: Registry Question?

I started online with the big things that I already knew I liked and needed (pack and play, swing, bouncy, soothing motions glider, newborn to toddler rocker, jumperoo, exercauser, high chair, monitors - angelcare and video,)

Then, in person I did the car seats, strollers, and basically everything else. Starting online def. made it less stressful when I went there in person.

Re: Registry Question?

I did almost the whole entire registry on the computer.... I was able to investigate the items thru BBB and then talk to my BFF about the items that I was interested in being she has 3 girls and her sister just had her son about 6 months ago.

I was also able to read the reviews that the moms and dads left, so I thought that was very helpful also.

I then went into the store, got the gun from the registry desk, and went through the store triple checking the items which I registered for.

Registered in the store and went home and edited it after. I did keep a wishlist before I set up my registry.

Re: Registry Question?

Registering can be VERY overwhelming!! Especially when you get to the wall of bottles, your mind goes nuts!
See if you can bring somone along that has small kids or knows the products. Have them give you a start and then you can edit your registry from there. Chat Icon

Re: Registry Question?

I registered in the store and then updated it online. BRU was very helpful. They gave me a booklet with the most popular items to register for and I could add them to my registry directly from the book instead of having to find them in the store. Plus they gave me a bunch of coupons and samples since I first registered in person. I don't know if they do that when you start your registry online.

I did bring the baby bargains book with me to the store while I registered and stood in the aisles the section on whatever I was choosing. And I brought my mother. Between the two, I couldn't go wrong.

Re: Registry Question?

I did all my research online and had the major items all narrowed down to 2-4. Then we went to the store and started the registry, looking at / testing out the ones I had narrowed it down to. It worked really well for us - we had the registry done in half a day.

Re: Registry Question?

I did a lot of things online. I think it is a good idea.

Just be careful with BRU because if they don't carry a pattern in their store, they don't take it back. We ended up getting two pack and plays and it took 3 stores before someone took it back. BRU.com sold it, but no stores here had it (we tried SI, NJ and finally the Sayville store). We actually got two travel systems too (both work of my MILChat Icon ) and they did take one back because they carried it in the store.

so, with the big stuff, I'd make sure that they carry it locally so if you have to return it, then you can.

Re: Registry Question?

If you register at BRU and start it in store, you get some sample stuff and some coupons.

I brought the Baby Bargains book with me a checklist of things to get. I've since added and deleted things numerous times online...

Us too. I started it online for the big items and some of the basic onsies and blankets and then went to the store to add some of the other things I didn't even think about - caps, socks, booties etc. And of course we went to BRU to see the car seats and test out the strollers before we registered. Found it less overwhelming this way rather than walking right into the store with nothing on our list.
