i know it's early...
but i already told my mom i don't want a shower. DH and i just got married, and i had a great bridal shower over the summer, and everyone was VERY generous. i feel like having a baby shower a year later is kind of greedy, KWIM?
my mom is giving us my old crib and dresser  which are both in great condition (and meet current safety standards), and i'm sure DH's mom and our grandparents will get us some big stuff. DH and i can afford to get everything else.
in addition, my family is jewish (DH's is catholic) so they don't generally have baby showers anyway (it's bad luck).
my mom sounded a little upset - but not too much, since she just planned a huge bridal shower!
what do you guys think?

I don't think it's greedy at all. Plus I am sure your good friends and family WANT to celebrate this occasion with you. At the very least, I would have a registry set up for those people that will still want to send you something before or after the baby is born. But I don't think you should NOT have one just because you had a bridal shower over the summer. Plus, you can have a smaller baby shower - invite your close friends and family - not like the huge bridal shower your mom did for you. JMO.

I had a bridal shower/wedding and baby shower all following eachother! You'll only get this chance once.
It's not greedy at all.
Hopefully your mom doesn't listen to you!

We're both catholic and Italian and we're not having one.
But I was considering having something (like a "welcoming") after the baby is born--but my DH doesn't like the idea, so its out of the question for me.
....but that's an idea.

I don't think a baby shower is greedy. However, if you don't want one that's your choice. My bf didn't have a baby shower because she's Jewish and superstitious. She did register though, and I suggest you do the same because people WANT to buy you baby gifts and most people want to get you stuff you want/need.

I wont be having a bridal shower either..My parents are buying us the entire furniture for the nursery and the glider. DH and I will be buying everything else.
My best friend wants to throw me a girls luncheon at her house with about 10 of our girlfriends so I think I'll register for some things in case anyone wants to be me a gift.

I know what you mean about feeling bad....i had my wedding shower late July and I am having a baby shower in April 2008...
We are catholic, and its just the tradition, so i'm having one. But after this, i'm done...They'lll be no more showers for me, so that makes me feel better about it.
Also, most of my family members would buy gifts anyway.

That's fine. My friend didn't have a baby shower either. But she did register because there were people (me included) who wanted to send her something anyway, so that was good.
I'd definitely still register for a few items just in case!

i don't think its greedy, i only got married a year ago. i have tha same situation, i'm jewish and DH is not... so we had a beautiful shower i'm just not allowed to set up/open/wash anything til the baby is born

i dont think its greedy. you will need stuff and people love going to baby showers. its an exciting time. i would still register and do a small shower if you dont want something big but you will need stuff for the baby anyway so whats a litlte help.

i was/am feeling the same way! but DH already told me he has been getting e-mails from my close friends on wanting to help with the baby shower ~ i dont think i will have a choice if i tell everyone i dont want one my family will probably do what they want anyhow.... but i do feel bad since i just go married last year and had a huge bridal shower...so i know how you are feeling

I don't think it's greedy. Most of my friends(if not all of them) had two showers within a year of each other. I like to celebrate.
