Is it tacky?

to register for a glider? My mom is at BRU right now shopping for another shower and she said this girl has a glider and ottoman on her registry. Do people really put furniture on their registry?

I don't think it's bad to put down at all. It's no different that the crib sets that are not cheap.

Re: Is it tacky?

I registered for my rocker- why would it be tacky?
I know it's expensive, and in my case, I knew my MIL would buy it- so it made it easier for her to buy it, but even if she didn't, what if like- a bunch of people wanted to chip in and buy it?

People register for $800 strollers with the same idea.

If people don't want to buy it, they don't have to.

Re: Is it tacky?

I dont think its tacky, that way, if it is not bought, you can use the %off they give you to close out your registry to buy it.

ETA: I registered for mine. It was the same price as the swing i registered for.

Agreed- this is why I had the Dyson on my wedding registry.

I don't think it is tacky at all. I wish I had thought to put a glider on mine. It would have saved me a lot of money!

Re: Is it tacky?

No, it's not tacky.

My MIL wanted us to register for our furniture but we decided not to because we only wanted to register at one store, and I didn't want to have to wait until my shower for my furniture to be ordered.

That's what I told my mom. I'm like, "Go look in the stroller section! There are more expensive items over there that people register for"

Re: Is it tacky?

Nope, not tacky because depending on the store (eg PBK) you get a completion discount if you need to buy it yourself. I put all my furniture only so I got the 10% off (you put the "event" date early than your due date, like your shower date, so you can order it in time). Plus you never know when people want to get together and buy a big gift (like officemates). I didnt put my Bugaboo on for fear it was tacky and people told me I should have.

Re: Is it tacky?

I don't think it's tacky if you don't register for a bazillion dollar one (same with the strollers, IMO). I registered for and received mine at my shower on Saturday... but it was $180 for the glider with ottoman. Had I selected a very expensive one, I would not have put it on my registry.

Re: Is it tacky?

I registered for mine! A lot of my family likes to 'chip-in' and buy large ticket items!! My cousin registered for one and me and some of my family members got it, and put it together for her! She sat in it to open all of her gifts!

I agree. You never know - people tend to get together sometimes to get a bigger gift. Worth a shot!

Re: Is it tacky?

Nope, not tacky. You can either buy it yourself after the fact for a discount if it is on your registry, or a group can chip in. I think it is a great idea.

Re: Is it tacky?

I am in the minority here on this one. While I wouldn't call it tacky, I just feel a baby registry is for other items rather than the furniture for the nursery. It's my total opinion.
