 Question about first RE appointment
I have one in January. I was going to go anyway this month if we didn't get pregnant. But I did get pregnant last month and it was my second miscarriage in five months. So my doctor told me not to try again until I go see an RE in case there are reasons I am miscarrying. I am 40 too. What happens on the first appointment? Also, considering my age, but also the fact of the two miscarriages, do you think I will be recommended to go to IUI or try on my own since I conceived twice. What happens on the first appointment? Thanks..I am very new to this...

Re: Question about first RE appointment
First I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Itis a very hard thing to go through.
In the first apointment, they will generally go over your records and discuss your history, DH's history and your families histories. They may do an exam or an internal sonogram. They may also suggest bloodwork for you and DH if they are lead to believe that there could be any chromosomal problems based on your past that could be causing the miscarriages. They may ask DH to do a semen analysis because it is pretty basic and non-invasive and it could rule out a bunch of things. If they dont ask for one, ask them to do it anyway. Getting pregnant on your own is a very good sign. I miscarried after conceiving with IUI. It really has no bearing on whether or not you will maintain a pregnancy - it is simply a more precise and different way of getting pregnant. Good luck!
