Clothing sizes?

How true to size do the months run to your actual baby size?

We got a ton of clothes from my Inlaws and some of the outfits are for colder weather, and I wonder though if she might be able to fit into them after the actual months listed. (does that make sense?)

Re: Clothing sizes?

Honestly, it completely varies by every baby and each item of clothes. My DD is 6 months and an average size girl. She can still fit into 3-6 month clothes, but also in 6+ month clothes. She was 7 lbs, 8 oz when born, so pretty average. But honestly, it's soooo hard to try to predict, it really is!!

As for your clothing you got, when are you due and what sizes are the clothes you're talking about?

Re: Clothing sizes?

I am due at the end of March. They bought us stuff from newborn to 12mo.

I know right off the bat that 2 newborn outfits are fleece and have penguins (winter) on them. There is no way I am putting her in a winter outfit in the start of spring. Plus we are in NC, I am assuming it'll be spring temps down here.

Then we got some heavier/long sleave/coats stuff for 3, 6, 9 months.

I am just afraid it's too warm of clothes for our weather. My DH does not want to return them and feel if we use them we use them. I dont' want to see them wasted, but if he does not care, I don't. I am just hoping we can in the end use them.

I'd say return them then. I agree, if you're in NC, you're going to be warmer earlier than we are here in NY. I say go with your gut. Maybe keep some of the newborn warmer stuff, and maybe even 1 or 2 of the next size up (0-3 months) in warmer clothes, just in case. But I would return the rest, IMO. Maybe some others with warmer-weather experience can give better insight too!

Re: Clothing sizes?

Yeah that is what I wanted too, but my DH does not want to hurt their feelings (crazy I know! If I gave it, I would be hurt knowing it was not being used)

Plus.....my MIL likes to take tags off the items. So some can't even be returned.

My DH tried to tell her, "remember it's warm down here and will be spring and summer." Her reply, "you can't always have her in short sleeves, it'll be cold."

The weather down here is crazy, 2 weeks ago it was hitting 80, and then it was down in the 30s...keep some warmer stuff, because who knows what will happen in march and april..plus you can always use the warmer pjs for nighttime when you have the ac on

Re: Clothing sizes?

Baby Bargins says to go by the weight (the tags have charts) not the age. All the newborn stuff seems to go up to 8lbs. HTH

Re: Clothing sizes?

SInce the tags are off, there's not much you really can do!
Wait and see how big the baby is when it is born...maybe you can use a warmer outfit on an unusually cold day....it's nice to have just in case!
I've had outfits that Lily has only worn once or twice...then they go into storage.
If there's ever another baby - those extra clothes might come in handy!
