Oh yes MIL drama too

MIL and SIL are here in NC visiting for the first time, and honestly its going great, they are both lovely this visit, and we are having a lot of laughs together.

Last night we were talking about the baby mostly just joking around stuff about how this is going to be the cutest baby in his family, and out of nowhere she tells us " im not coming to see the baby until after your mother leaves, and I will only come if I get to hold it and take care of it the way I want" ok first off its not bubble baby you can hold him/her, and care for him/her, I cant believe you would think that we (more so I) wouldnt let you, and am kinda offended by that. And second back off lady, I know you raised 3 kids blah blah blah, but this one is mine, your advice will be solicited when needed, but I will not sit back and let you do things that I am not ok with. And whats so bad about my mom that you will not visit when shes here? You already cracked jokes that she gave you a xmas present, but now you have to say this?

Instead of saying on of these things, I just smiled at her and said " of course you can hold the baby anytime you want, and any help you can give us is greatly appreciated"

Dh has no idea that this upset me at all, nobody does, but the more I think about it, the more it irritates me that she had to make that comment.

I think MILs have to go to a certain school to learn how to be the rudest, most obnoxious person in the room at all times.

I'd let her know (even if it's not until she arrives after the baby) that she won't be able to take care of it the way SHE wants whether you're mother is there or not. You're the parents and it's going to be done YOUR way and she needs to respect that. And let her delay her visit, that way you can figure YOUR way out first! If she comes in those early days, she'll drive you nuts.

I definitely second that!!!! Sorry you're regretting what you said back to her. Sometimes people count on catching you off guard and that's why they say such rude things.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ugh...that would have ****** me off too. She doesn't want your mom there so she can have the baby to herself without sharing with another grandma.
