Lily got one of those too...and she's 7 months...and it was a sundress!
But it's an uncle who has no kids, so he has no idea! I have to give him credit for even trying to buy little girl clothing!

I'll go first (not that it's terrible but..)
MIL wakes me up the other day to ask me what to get DD.
I tell her PJs. That she needs 6-9 month PJs which is EXACTLY what she wears right now.
She got her PJs.
12 month PJs.
Fleece.
They will fit her when she is a year old --in June. 
they may come in handy in the ac. Ryan wears winter jammies all summer long, and often summer ones in the winter
ETA: Ryan got great gifts but the transformers that he needs help transforming are going to drive me crazy. I guess its a boy thing because DH loves it

A GIANT bag of Legos. The super mini ones.
They are for ages 6 and up.
I'm pretty sure it's a regift (it's from the same aunt I mentioned on the NFR regift thread).
Oh and sports team apparel for teams we don't like.

My BIL has no clue and buys Julia boyish toys every year.... This year she got a lawnmower that blows bubbles--lol
Oh and he also got her a little peoples Farm house, that shes to old for.....
my dds got the bubble lawn mower also. that is one messy gift.

My SIL gave DC toys for ages birth to 6 onths - they are now 18 months old. All of her gifts tend to be useless - either wrong size/ wrong season or age inappropriate. I think she does it purposely to get under my skin.

Actually that is smart of your MIL cause DS is wearing 12 monhts and he is only 6 m onths old.
You'll be surprised how qucickly she will grow into them
I was going to say the same thing!! I hate when people give me clothes or PJ's in exactly the size he wears right now - I know they won't even last the month!!!
Not all babies grow that quickly though. Lily has always worn her clothes for a while...she's just about 7 months and is currently *just* fitting into her 6-9 month clothes. 6-12 is still waaay too big on her.
6-9 month clothes were a huge hit with me this Christmas! She's probably going to be able to wear them most of the winter!
ITA. Christopher has always been about a month behind. He started wearing 6-9 months at 7 months, 3-6 at 4 months, etc.
We didn't really get a bad gift....but we did get a funny one. My MIL bought a Baby's First Christmas Santa hat....except since Christopher's head is SO huge, it didn't come CLOSE to fitting

My 3 month old got a little box (like the one that has earrings in it)...so I tought how lovely a pair of earrings...inside was stuffed a tiny Mickey Mouse and the tag on it said "Kellogg's".
Kellogg's ...maybe it was in a cereal box

Josh was given jewelry. I guess its not the worst, but it is sooooo not me. When we visited the gift giver he was flossing his chain and bracelet, he looked silly.

Thank you! I know that some babies grow quickly, others more slowly, and I KNOW my DD will NOT fit into 12 months until June - that is why I told her to get 6-9 month PJs....

OMG I got one for Alex and it was no where NEAR big enough for her 90% head!!
(She is 50% in weight and height tho which explains why she is just starting to get into 6 mo clothes...)

DS (who is 2) got a science experiment kit (ages 8-12) and a bubble gum machine with a bag of bubble gum. Don't think he'll be using either one anytime soon.

I still have the toolset, in the closet, my sister gave DS last year that is for 4+ (he was 1.5 at the time) and the footy pjs from the year before that she gave when I asked for footless pjs (since he was so tall)
this year - #2 got a ride on toy - which she knows we have 3 of (since her son comes over to play with them) and when she asked I said no toys - since we have so much - books or clothes would be better.
I was sure that when she had a child things would change - but nope...

actually, for once, we didnt get any "bad" gifts for Alyssa. Last Xmas and her bday we got soo many clothes that were the wrong size /wrong season or toys for the wrong age group but we got lucky this time around and everything was great!
Except for the fact that we got mostlly toys from everyone so my house looks like TRU had a bomb go off in here...and DD made us open each and every toy, of course.
This thread has some funny gifts named...I love the Kelloggs Mickey Mouse!

My aunt gave to DS *last Christmas* this toy - it's a round "head" and it's Bert on one side and Ernie on the other and you press their mouths and it laughs in their voice and vibrates. The thing scared me! I put it away since DS was 4 mos old last Christmas and the toy said 18+ mos. I did take it out about 6 weeks ago for him. He does like it because he likes Sesame St now, but I know last year it would have freaked him out. It was (and still is) a bizarre toy...

My ds received a "my first baseball mit and ball". They have velcro so it is easier to catch. Great gift but not for a 5 week old child.
My gift giver has 3 kids too, not sure what they were thinking.

I know I will be flamed for this, but I think its fine to get children gifts that a often used by the opposite gender. In nursery schools boys play in the kitchen and girls play with trains.
For my sons 3 yr old b-day he recieved a rocket for 12 and up to blow off his fingers, now that was a bad gift. All others I appreciate, cause if nothing else I can give them away. ...ok a pen is pretty bad.

Well, you could start the 9 month olds on coffee, can't you???
My MIL gave DD (4 months old) a hat/glove/scarf set...the hat fits, the gloves should fit when she's about 2 and I'm pretty sure I won't put a scarf around my 4 month old's neck!
And I am in stuffed animal he11...DD must have gotten 12 separate stuffed animals - some make noise, some don't...

I totally agree. My dd's first christmas I was so annoyed at family members for giving gifts that I thought were stupid. Then my dd started to play with most of those "stupid" gifts and I learned to let it all go. They will play with and like what they want whether it is stupid or for the opposite gender or whatever. As long as it is a safe toy for them it is fine. The truth is most of our kids are lucky enough to have more toys than any child ever needs so it is okay if one or two are just ridiculous (like the baseball and mit my 5 week old received this year )
