Girl name concern
We decided that we wanted to name the baby if it's a girl: Giulianna Rose. Rose is from my mother's name and Giulianna is a spin off of my MIL's family name. However, with politics on people's mind's for 2008, people are asking me "wow, your naming your baby after Rudi Guiliani?"
I know DH loves Guilianna - I think mostly b/c of the family significance and b/c it's a pretty name. His mother seemed very happy when we told her how we came up with the name. We have a very Italian last name and this name was one of the few that worked well that I liked- I can't do anything that end's with "i" or and "e-sound". We loved the name Isabella for a long time, but of our friends/family - 3 recently named their girls Isabella, plus it would have no family significance. I wanted to be a little unique. However, I'm so anti-politics, the comments are making me mad. I know the name will always be misspelled too, but my name was always spelled wrong also, it's annoying, but I think there are actually people that can manage to spell anything wrong. I haven't addressed this yet wth DH.
Thoughts?

Re: Girl name concern
If you both love the name I say keep it......honestly I didn't think about the Giuliani thing until you mentioned it.....as far as it not being spelled right, well, some people just can't spell no matter what you name the child!

Re: Girl name concern
I've loved the name Guiliana/Juliana (my friends and family spell it with a J) forever and the very last thing I ever think of is Rudy Guiliani when I hear it. I wouldn't even make the association if we were talking instead of reading. I don't think it's an association you'll get much and to be honest, I'd have a very hard time not calling whoever said it a moron. It's a name that's been around forever!
As far as it being spelled wrong, well that's definitely going to happen - no question. Even if you spelled it with a J people would still spell it wrong so that's just something she'll have to deal with like the rest of us. People still spell my name wrong and I thought after grammar school that would stop, but apparently not.

Re: Girl name concern
If you love the name keep it. We are naming Chelsea and everyone asks us if we are going to vote for Hilary clinton because of it You should do whatever makes you happy. In the long run people will not remember the political context anyway.

My cousin's daughter is Juliana. I love that name. Its just a different spelling.
Giulianna doesn't make me think of Giulianni at all for some reason.

Re: Girl name concern
Keep the name. When I had my son and wanted to name him Jonathan. My sister flipped. She said he would be made fun of his whole life. "jon Jacobs"
well he has had one or two comments and he is 15. I liked it and heck they made a song because it sounded good. Besides in a few years Gulliani will be out of office anyway. Go for the name. its beautiful!

Re: Girl name concern
Thank you everyone...
I spoke to DH about it and he agrees with everyone... he said that it's a beautiful name and huge family significance so we are once again excited that if we have a she will be Giulianna.
Everyone always mispells my name... I've lived with it my whole life and very rare to I come accross anyone else with my name. There was an old annoying song associated with the "nickname" of my name that I hated for like a year when I was 6, these days I never even think about it and I'm comfortable with my name b/c it's not common.
Thank you for helping me with this!!
