Posted by MrsF519 I do that same thing with Jaime. I say High may instead of Jay me.
That's how my sis spells her name Jaime... it's pronouced Jay-me, but she gets people calling her High-may a lot.
but for some reason I only do it with men. I would def. call a girl Jay me if it was spelled Jaime.

Isn't the High-may pronunciation only for a man's name, though?

Also, just remembered I do a lot of work with people from Africa and their parents love to name them after words that sound like they have noble meanings...
Honesty Patience Justice Verity (love this one) Prudence Kingsley
things like that.

DH's friend is a teacher and his student was named Female (pronounced Fe-mal-A). Her mother did not speak English when she was born and thought that the hospital named her when they put Female and then her last name on her crib. So she kept it Female and this is this girls name. Her brother is Male (mal-A). You cannot make this stuff up.
OMG - My brother's ex from MANY, MANY years ago (like 15) told me she knew someone with the same name/same story...only they pronounced it Fuh-mal-ee (like tamale) It's something that I've never forgotten

My mom made up my middle name. It's Charon. I was the first born and she wanted to honor her father, Charles. So she made my middle name Charon and she pronounced it Charon with a hard Ch. I pronounce it as Sharon.
One of my cousin's children's names is Kenya. Another is Jayden, haven't heard that name often.
I believe it's an Indian name. I have a coworker from India who is named Charon with a hard Ch.

Where does his friend teach? This might be the same family I am talking about. My cousin teaches in middle village

There used to be a girl on my floor whose name was Geisha, as in Japanise prostitute. A fine name to give your child, indeed. Geisha does not mean "Japanese prostitute".
I have a dear friend named Ardis (like Artist - with a "d" and no "t")...I love it.

And another friend whose name is Siobhan (SHA-VON).
That's how you pronouce Siobhan??? I've come across that name a few times and always thought it was See-O-Baan.
It's Gaelic. It's not that uncommon. Many Gaelic names seem to have unusual pronunciations based on our rules.
Sean = Shawn Siobhan = Sha-von Cabhan = Kavan Conchobhar = Connor

Well, English pronunciations would be strange based on Irish/Gaelic rules, too.

Actually, Dympna is a saint.
Saint Dympna
The Irish word for fawn is buídhonn (if talking about the color) or oisín if talking about the animal.

Maybe some, but most of the posters here (myself included, with Queen Mary and Queen Anne, and Crystal Bell) are first-hand knowledge, so I know that at least most of them are true.
